Default Thoughts on anti-sub strap design...

Hey all,

I'm about to place an order for my Willans 3" harnesses and want to make them 6 point right off the bat. They seem to offer both the V style and T style sub belts and I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to pros/cons of each. I've figured out the difference between the two, just wondering if anyone has tried both and found one superior to the other....

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

-Jeff

V
I dont think you can use a T because the body rails run right in the middle where you would put the T.

P.S. This had better be on a car with a roll cage or at least good bar.

/\ James, the T and the V both attach at 2 points around the centerline.

OP - I have the Willans harnesses for the passenger and driver's seats and I run the T on both - it just seems to provide more clearance for the family jewels.

Hmmm I was under the impression that the T style still had two sub-straps (the difference being in how the two sub straps attached to the piece that clicks into the camlock: either at the same point (V) or at two different points (T)). Below is a picture of the two, V is on the left:

As far as being put into a car with a cage or bar... study enough for ya? (seats with proper shoulder harness slots and a proper sub belt slot are also now in the car)

Thanks for the input Alejo, I placed an order with the V style to try out (I'm in a rush to get them in so I had to order quick), if I find that they cramp the "jewels" too much, I might switch up

"Right" is the only way to do it IMHO

Thanks for the advice guys, I did some more reading and it does appear to be mainly a preference thing. I wanted to make sure I submitted my order as quickly as possible so I can get the suckers in the car before the next track event so I fired an order off for the V. If they aren't comfy I can always switch 'em up The website I ordered from said that if you're smaller its kind of a 6 of one, half a dozen of the other situation. And I'm not a big dude.

If I remember I'll update this thread with my thoughts when I get the harnesses in the car.

Take a look at Schroth Hybrid II and III. I have the Hybrid II and I thought it was much more comfortable then the T or V style anti subs.

The Willans 6 point with the T is VERY comfortable, you don't notice it and can be worn for long periods of time.

Don't forget the shoulder pads - definetly a must.

I had a T-style in an ice racer. (lots of left AND right foot braking depending on the situation) It dug into whatever leg I raised onto the brake, but I didn't really notice while racing because I was preoccupied. I actually ended up with bruises on the inside of both my thighs.

My latest harness is the V-style. I'm able to run it much lower on my hips without digging into my legs. Getting the straps to straddle 'the boys' isn't that hard when you're getting strapped into the car. Next time I want to go with the formula-style anti-sub straps where there's no hard metal connections at all and they're quite far apart. Like this:
