I've got similar "chunking" on my front S-02s with around 7mm of tread remaining. The chunks are just affecting one narrow block of tread near the inner sides of the front tyres; the rest of the tyre is fine with some rounding-off at the outside edge.

I am running them unshaved on the street. I have not run them long enough to really comment on how well they do or do not work. Season opening autoX will not be for several more weeks either. Based on the short amount of time I have run them full tread on the street, I would say they still stick better than the S02s. I do not worry about rain as I have another car to drive. I do about 15+ autoX a year and currently have 3 track days scheduled. I am hoping to wear the tires down a bit before the first autoX.

Guys, can the RA1's work as a street tire - like a daily driving tire?

Full tread depth RA1's work fine in the rain. I wouldn't recommend using full tread depth at the track. Since the price of a RA1 is roughly the same as S02's, I don't see any reason against using them as a replacement street tire.
