Default Tire Question

Posted this in wheels/tires, but didn't get any answers.

MY2000 AP1 w/ 17" BBS RGR's. +48 front, +55 rear. Suspension is otherwise stock.

I've been running 225/45's in front and 255/40's in the rear.

It is time for new tires.. I'd like to stick with 255's in the back, but am not sure if I should stay at 225 in the front, or go down to 215s.

Anyone have any experience with this? Am I really going to get more understeer with the 215's?

Thanks!
-Jeff

what type of racing will you be doing?
How does the car feel now?
If you feel you undesteer now, go to 235. If you feel like you oversteer now, go to 215.

I think 225/45

I did 235/45 and its a little tall at the front - if I did 235 again and it would fit it on the rim I'd do 235/40 or 245/40

For street, I'd probably go with 215/45's. Not because that setup is "more understeery" (the effect is minor, particularly for street tires and for street usage), but because narrower/lighter-weight/shorter-sidewall front tires will make the handling of the car feel a bit more initially responsive and light-handling. It'll *feel* more like a lighter-weight sports car.

My .02...

^^^ a very good point... I agree with him for straight street use, for Autox I say if your happy with handling stay the same.

I have a MY2001 with the stock suspension and I am extremely happy with the 225 front 255 rear tires. In autox the car is tail happy but very controllable and very quick. on the street it feels extremely planted with no understeer and only any oversteer if i push it too far.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

I've been happy with my current 225 + 255 setup, but I keep wondering if there is a good reason the CR has 215 + 255 instead. Maybe they wanted more understeer on the CR

I know there are a ton of other variables, but still... at this point I wonder if tire choice/model will have more impact than sizing anyway...

What is the wheel width of your rims? and are you getting any rubbing with the offest of these wheels? Did you bend the fender lip?

I want to run 225/255, but I am having a hard time finding the correct offset.
