Tire Trailer
8 tires? Mounted? That's a lot of weight. Kind of pushing it, IMHO. Once you start talking more than a single set of wheels and a toolbox, it seems like you really ought to start thinking of a haul vehicle and car trailer.
Especially for long distances.

8 wheels would need to take the place of the typical box on most of the small tire trailers. Maybe a small and/or thin one could work or put the tools in the car.
I haven't weighed a tire/wheel assembly for a while but 50 lbs. each would be a ballpark (more with certain wheels and tires, maybe somewhat less with others). That would give you 400 lbs. plus the weight of the trailer and any tools. Sounds chancy...

Regarding the weight:
- In steady-state driving on the highway, I don't see why there would be an issue. (As long as the weight is within the limits of the trailer's specs.)
- While speeding up and slowing down, however, more force will be required to accelerate the car/trailer at the same rate as before. (Unless you just really ease into it.) So you'd doubly want to make sure that your hitch is properly attached to the car.
- You shouldn't have any drivetrain issues - the car sees much greater forces during track/autox events, after all.
Regarding the logistics:
- I don't see how you could fit eight wheels/tires plus a toolbox on any of the trailers I've ever seen hooked up to a Miata or S2000. Tires on the trailer and tools in the trunk might work, though.
