Default tire trailer wiring guide?

Topic says it all, what colors should I pick signals from, and any preferred route to route the harness?

Thanks.

It's been a long time since I installed my module but I just used the wiring diagrams for color codes. Looking at the PDF version of the 2000-2003 manual, brakes are on page 22-64 (white/black), turn signals on page 22-77 (green/yellow), tail lights on page 22-63 (red/black).

I think the module is near the left taillight assembly...

These are the pics from my install. I routed the wires out the air vent flap (below the trunk latch)

Thanks - I assume that box is purchased separately from the harness? How much is it?

You need a 5 wire to 4 wire converter. If you have LED tails, you may want to use the isolating harness with external power otherwise your trailer turn signal might cancel cruise control

I just used my volt-ohm meter to pick the wires. It took me about 3 hours to tear apart the trunk, locate the wires, tap into them, tear apart the interior, run the external power, reassemble everything, then verify.

get a 4 wire converter from UHaul with it's own power source, i think it was $45. if you get one that use power from the signal wires, the lights on the trailer will be very dim and you might blow fuse. i keep blowing fuse, so bought a converter with it's own power source.

The harness is part of the module and comes with taps so you don't need to cut/splice wires. Mine doesn't have a power lead yet has run both a kayak and tire trailer with no problem. Obviously, it depends on the exact lighting setup.

Also, I wouldn't run the trailer plug through the vent under the bumper unless you never drive in wet weather. I had to redo the vent on mine even though it had never been touched due to water in the trunk (from multiple places).

How would you suggest doing it? There is a grommet that I was going to use but the connector on my pre-built harness didn't fit through so plan B was the vent.

I use the vent, but habitually avoid driving my car on heavy rain days.
