Top Speed
Hi y'all,
Just wanted to know what peoples top speeds were at some of the race tracks? I want to know track speeds not top highway speeds, I don' t need any tickets
So if you managed to take a peak at the speedo while concentrating on hitting that next brake threshold lets hear them: Laguna? Sears Point? Buttonwillow? Willow Springs? Watkins Glen?
Not really a particular reason for this other than to know if people are topping out their cars at the tracks.

Saw flashes of redline in 5th gear exiting T8 at Willow Springs, driving davepk's car at OTC. This was on the "little" Dunlops - on the taller tires laptimes were 2 seconds lower and speeds correspondingly higher, in excess of 140 I'd wager. Speed before braking for T1 was just a bit lower.
Not sure where you can go faster than that in the west. I know some of the midwest and east-coast tracks are reported to have 6th gear straightaways. I think that would be dull in the S2000. T8 at Willow is anything but dull.
Now, there was that one time when I had to do a little countersteer around a little bend while traveling about 160mph down the 163 into Mission Valley...

Spokane Raceway(here in Washington) is home to "The longest straightaway on the North America Continent"... its more than nine tenths of a mile long. If you set up turn 10 coming onto the straight right your exit speed could be in excess of 90mph! Basically you've got most of a mile to accelerate to kingdom come.
However none of the local S2000 owners have really pushed the envelope. I've seen over 140mph a third of the way down the straight and then backed off. With an SC It is very possible you could see 155mph+ if you have the balls to trail-brake and double apex turn 2.

If you think I'm chicken, you can go first and show me how its done.

my theory on braking points, wait untill your balls jump up to your stomach, and then wait 50 more feet. But what do I know?
Makes for good fun when your passenger keeps telling you to brake.

Jason your :27.9 was on the small dunlaps?
Willow springs turn 8 is fast > 130 in my s2k (guestimated)
You see 125+ on the front straight of thunderhill if you get a good run out of 14. Buttonwillow in some configs you see ~120. Maybe 110-120 at laguna (I never look at my speed going into 2). At sears probably the same.

I hit redline in 5th just about the start finish line @ Texas Motor Speedway. I was too close to the wall to look down at my speedometer. I am sure I was in excess of 160mph (or at least that's what I told my wife ;o)
We were running the Roval so they had a chicane too short a distance after that point to even consider shifting to 6th.
Would have been going faster, but kept chickening out about flooring it all the way thru the banked oval section leading up to the straight. It was funny, but almost everyone would self limit themselves to 100-110 thru the oval.

The car was noticably lighter on its feet with the smaller/lighter wheels and tires, but the extra grip provided by the 18's through 9, 1, and especially 5 made all the difference. The 17's were also a bit used at that point; had they been as fresh as the 18's were it might've been a bit closer.
My good times at Pahrump were on the small tires, where peak cornering forces were very similar to that of the big 18's, and acceleration felt awesome. In that last session I was a bit into fifth gear on the back stretch @ Pahrump...
On the main straight at the Nurburgring (probably 2-3km long), the 24h S2000 cars were probably hitting 250+kmh, even with the slight incline near the end of the straight. On tourist days, you have to come in to the "pits" halfway down the straight, so I've only hit about 200kmh or so before needing to brake.
Normally I exit the Dottinger Hoehe curve before the straight at about 140kmh, accelerate under the timing gantry, and coast into the pits on the straight.
There are several other spots on the track that I see much higher speeds. The 3km uphill Kesselchen section nets a 189kmh drag-limited speed before Angstkurve (basically flat out through some gentle bends in this car). My rear wheels leave the ground at the hill at Flugplatz (translation=flying place!
). I can get up to 210kmh on the fast Schwedenkreuz (also flat out through gentle curves) before a crest and the braking point, and I've only dared 185kmh down the Fuchsroehre compression, even though some bikers routinely go through there at 260+!
They also report 280kmh speeds on the uphill Kesselchen as well!
