Default Torn CV Boot After Track Day.

Had a great day track day yesterday.
6 seconds off my previous best.
When I arrived home I noted that my rear passenger wheel was caked with tan grease.
Jacked the car up and noticed that the boot to be torn.
See Pick Bellow.

What do you all recomend?
Replace boot or replace axle?
I don't think any damage was done.... theres no clicking and spinning is smooth.

Regards.

replace it. I had a similar failure and just put more grease in it and a new seal. It didn’t last. The grease lubricants it and once you throw it out and drive on it it’s toast. Also when it fails it’s spectacular.

Car is Stock Height.

I was planning replacing the boot, but rockauto only has the axels.
- Brands include APWi, Cardone, and SureTrack.

Anyone use these before?
- Also, this car is mostly seeing track duty..

I had something similar happen in April last year (you can see more here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/automoti.../#post24187211 ), I just replaced the boot, but I did pull both axles and axle buckets off (swapped them as a precaution) and have done another 6 or so track days after that with no issues. I used the OEM CV axle boot kit part number: 42017-S2A-010

Use as much OEM as you can when rebuilding, even replace with OEM axles when you can.

Lots of reported failures when using something other than OEM.

I'll even Shin-Etsu my boots when I'm under there.

+1 for rebuilding the entire joint using stock parts. Both the Orilies and DSS replacements I tried had vibrations right out of the box. These cars aren't like civics/integras when it comes to axles for whatever reason. They really like OEM back there.

Ballade does seem to have a rebuild service that MIGHT be OK but I'm currently unwilling to try them given the quality of some of their other parts I've dealt with.

Thanks for the follow-up.
- I ordered the axel yesterday, but I am concerned of the quality of non-oem parts, so I'll order the rebuild kit.
- Since I'll be removing the axel nut to get to the CV boot, do you all recommend getting a new nut?
- Thx.

So I've done more research (read more posts regarding this issue and saw some youtube (DIYguys seems to have best)).
- I've purchased the Ball Joint Separator
- I've purchased a CV Joint Clamp from Amazon
- I've purchased the boot.
- I've purchased the grease

From my understanding:
- You remove the 36 mm Castle nut.
- Jack the car
- Remove the lower ball joint
- And then swing out the wheel hub and expose the cv joint (not sure on the language.,... im still learning)
- How do you swing out the wheel hub (looked at some vids online and it seems you crank on it and whack on the axel it with a hammer/punch)

Also, when reassembling, how difficult is it to the lower ball joint back in place?
- I would think it would be difficult since a tool was needed to remove it in the first place

Will vehicle need re-aligment after this repair
- I would think not since no changes were made to suspension componets (albeit the ball joint was removed and re-installed).

Thanks.

You can reuse that nut. The new axle might even include a new one. Put a touch of grease on the back side of it when reinstalling.Torque to spec and stake it.
