Track car suggestions needed
There are multiple reports of engine failures on GR86es since they were first released. First the silicon in oil pickup issue leading to oil starvation then oil pressure dropping from 60 psi to 20 on fast right hand turns. Couple that with Toyota doing everything they can to deny warranty claims I thought it would be best to sell it after 21 track days with the car.
For reference a person I personally know blew the 4th gear at the track right next to me and Toyota denied his warranty claim saying the car was tracked. A few people that I don't know but read about went through the same thing with motors. I personally had my car looked at a dealer due to suspension noise. It was fixed under warranty (loose upper bolt), however the tech made sure to fill out a 3 page report saying my tire wear is abnormal for street usage and that the car has camber bolts (only mod on the whole car) which means the car is tracked and that he wanted to document that on the paperwork. A long block and dealer installation for that was being quoted at $19k.
Outside all that I had no issues with the car, it was one of the best cars I owned and felt great at the limit.
As far as driver modification, yes there is definitely time I can pick up, about 4 seconds to lap record with that setup which is the street 86 class (2:06). Its not going sub 2 without engine mods I think. Most sub 2 GR86es were tires, wheels, coilovers, raceseat, front/rear aero, headers, tune. Maybe aero and power mods cancel each other a bit due to drag.... I don't know what that rear wing does at 60mph anyways...add 30lb of downforce to the trunk?

sub 2 without engine mods or aero... moot point though, regarding the reason for sale, which I agree with. Anyway, what's your budget for a track car? and, are you planning on towing to events or driving the car to events?
I know this guy, I went as his passenger at CW13 once, he ran 2:04 with me as ballast on 245 GT Radial tires, great driver.
As far as budget, I am a bit torn. In reality I want a pure dedicated track car that is towed to the track. I don't want to deal with California emissions this, can it be smogged that, reg expired, CHP says bla bla bla. On top of that I appreciate the "race car" feel. You know, hard shifts, no noise insulation, race tach, being able to run super aggressive suspension/tires, multi point harness, race seats/wheel, not being too concerned with spinning out, scratching paint, having bunch of dirt get in the car, breaking down etc.. However I don't know if I am ready to buy/build a dedicated track car, buy a trailer, buy a truck, store all of that on my property and drive 60mph to every track day. I guess I need to do the trade study between what I said before and the ease of driving your car to track and dealing with only 1 vehicle instead of 3.

Also have an 02 S2000 that fits what you describe...no interior except door panels and dash, no ac or radio, it is set up with seat, harness roll bar hardtop stoptechs and big APR wing with feal 441+ rsg coilovers and ap2 engine. as a bonus it is registered and street driveable so if you want to just throw in your earplugs and head out to bw or sow. This one I can sell cheaper than the other one I described above.
I just decided to by another S2000 from auction and ended up with two. One of them is in Houston. It's an AP1 with AP2 drive train. It's all there and it runs good. Salvage title from Florida. Will be listing for sale in a couple weeks. 818 262-9210
