I don't believe there is any insurance for HDPE event. As long as your HDPE event is not timed you should be covered under insurance. The HDPE event coordinators will not cover any accidents. Make sure the HDPE event is listed as a driving school so that it can be covered under your normal insurance. And double check the fine print of your insurance policy.

Most auto insurance companies will not covered "racing events."

assuming you get crash, and you get it covered by your insurance, be prepared to be dropped immediately...

Most companies have added language specifically for any incident on an closed course. It varies state by state, if yours doesn't have it now it will shortly. Read the exclusions on your policy. If you don't have it, ask your agent for the latest copy. I've gone through 3 companies in the past 3 years, they all have that language now.

American Collectors Insurance has a specific DE policy (That's what I have now). It's a supplemental policy. It only covers you on track (not racing), on a trailer, or stored in a locked garge. Fee is 1.5% the value of the car, and it has a 20% deductable.

Edit: there is no limit to the number of events with ACI.

I appreciate all the feedback I’ve learned a lot. I have a 2003 with 90,000 miles. Nine out of 10 vin numbers and number 10 I have in my possession because it was just puncture damage to the front bumper from road debris. My wife and I just like to go on occasional cruises and I go to one or two car shows a year, otherwise she is a garage queen. And for the mileage she looks almost showroom. The only mod is a cat back, which is easily swapped back.

@campbuds think infinite scroll got you and you replied to the wrong thread. Right thread is here - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-ta...erage-1219930/

You can turn off infinite scroll in the settings under your profile if you want. Catches out a lot of people.

Haha, just realized this is a 2006 thread, and was accidentally brought back to life. My bad.

Anyway, I discussed this question with my previous insurance carrier. I posed the question to them via email and they called me to respond so that it would be off the record. What they said agrees with what's described above. They would cover educational events on a closed course, but would not cover any timed events, competitions, or racing events.

Since then I changed insurance companies for unrelated issues. I asked my new provider the same question, and they immediately declined to cover the car under any circumstances. They said they absolutely wouldn't cover the car for street use because i do "1 track day per year".
We kept talking about my other cars and eventually they softened on the S2k, but be mindful, I have heard about insurance companies dropping your policy if you even call and ask the question.
Best to read your policy before picking up the phone.

If you`re looking for a day worth of HPDE coverage, there are companies that sell this. I think Lockton and Hagerty are two of the big names.

Well if you can prove the accident happened on the street then they cannot deny you coverage because "you did a track day". That is just the insurance company being crap and pushing you away because of how you use the car. But, that is why my S2ks primary insurance is Hagerty. They specifically WANT collector and track cars and have no issue with it and allow you to set a mileage limit so you dont just have to drive it to car shows and stuff. Mine is set up for 5000 miles per year of driving. Then for HPDE, I use Hagerty as well which is written through RLI and is great coverage. They will even cover you for time trials if you select it.

I once used my regular Hagerty insurance roadside assistance to pick it up from the track when something broke. I did not trailer it that day and I did not have HPDE coverage that day. I had to tell the lady "hang on, its loud, I am at the track" while we were talking and she just laughed.

OnTrackInsurance is a great option depending on which track you visit. Lockton and Hagerty are two other companies that provide track insurance.

They are very straight forward and typically will insure the vehicle on the agreed upon value.
