Default At track, how do S02'S wear on a stock S2K?

On a completely stock S2K, how do the tires, front and back, seem to wear when taken to the track? I'm asking because I am taking my car to Streets of Willow Springs in a couple of weeks and my rears have 8300 miles on them and are looking a little bit low on tread. I want to fully appreciate the track day so I'm considering getting new rears beforehand. However, I'm concerned that I'll be wearing the insides of tires or chewing up tread/sidewall or something under hard driving circumstances. Anybody attest to experiences with this, especially at Streets of Willow Springs?

One factor I'll throw out there is that I do know how to drive smoothly and know that sliding around doesn't mean faster times.

Also, anyone see a problem with replacing only the rears? The fronts also have 8300 miles on them but are looking a lot better than the rears at this point.

Thanks for any help & advice!

I've run worn tires at the Streets and it's worked out fine. Unless they're really bald you should be OK. Are you going for both days or just one? With regard to replacing only the rears I think that's fine too. They wear at different rates in my experience and I've never replaced the fronts and rears at the same time.

Well I gotta say I'm very glad I posted this thread!! Thanks a lot for the tips -- I have to say all comments thus far make good sense. What's a good aggressive alignment that will comfortably withstand a ~150 mile trip to the track? 2 more degrees of camber? Should I be concerned with toe-in or caster? (Are those even adjustable on this car?) I'll do a search so don't worry about responding too much, but thanks again!

Our experience with the race car is that front tires are the one that suffer the most, especially the outside edge.

We are running 2.5 neg camber up front and 1.7 neg rear. Rears look great after a race weekend and I estimate are good for three race weekends. We have to get a new set of front S02s every race but it could be extended to two.

Shaving them is very important if they are brand new.
