Default Track Insurace

Hello everyone, so I plan to attend a drivers edge event in November at TWS. I am not going to be the fastest but to learn more than anything. I do still owe on the car.

My question is do you have insurance for accidents at the track? Have you ever had an accident at the track and had to do a claim? Any tips?

Check your policy, most exclude track based events, even when not competitive (As is a DE)

Track insurance is not a bad thing to have, it is just expensive.

I haven't had an issue such that I would need track insurance in the time I have been tracking the S (6 years).

MY car was bought cash and as such if I ball it up, I will be sad first, then mad at myself for pushing beyond my limits.

However, a lot depends on your personality-by that I mean if you go and push 10/10ths every time, expect to encounter a situation where you will need it.

I too will be at TWS, instructing, so will look forward to meeting you there.

You can get track day insurance for an agreed upon value. Check the NASA website or the SCDA website (SCDA1). There are at least two companies offering insurance. Reasonably priced but a highish deductible.

Track days are pretty safe but spins happen. Whatever you do, don't lift in the corners.

Have fun!

Guard rails and such can be expensive to replace/repair. Most track day policies also cover damage to the track.

Thanks for all the information so far! I'll check it out.

PMPTX, I'll be in a Silverstone on ap1 wheels. Hope to meet you. I will be requesting Thansis for the event.

Mainly going to learn and get my feet wet.

I've always used Lockton Affinity for every track day--it's about 200$ for a weekend to cover $50k. It's nice to have for freak accidents--my brother totaled a Cayman S (bent it around a corner worker station), but got a $43k check from Lockton a couple weeks later.

My policy will cover anything that is NOT a timed event. My agent is a member of the PCA and participates in DE events himself. Many companies will not cover, but some will. The key is that it is a driver education event not any type of race. Actually if I had an incident at an autox I would not be covered.

Good to know. I'll check with my insurance company and see what they say.
I haven't asked yet cause I didn't want to raise any flags on my policy.

That's what Google kept bringing up. Looks like it's about $175 with a $2500 dudibctal.

Be carefull calling your insurance company to ask about coverage on the track, there was a post a while back where a member was cancelled for no other reason than he asked about it. The Insurance Company used his call as an admission that he engaged in "risky" driving habits. I can't find the thread but I recommend that you research it a bit before contacting your insurer.
