Track Time with Instructor
I've tried running a search in Google (I found a lot of other forums talking about this).
The consensus is that insurance companies are starting to include fine prints to exclude insurance for track events. Their wording varies though. Some say only timed events are excluded, while others say that any form of racing (timed or not timed) would trigger something.
I guess my next question is, is there insurance that one could get separately for track events (e.g. one day racing insurance, etc)?
Thanks.

I'm going on the 15th of September, and will call Geico first. Though it sounds like I'm out of luck. Does any know of a short term company? I'm certainly willing to pay a couple hundred extra just to know I'll be safe.

When are you going to summit? I assume you are doing a FATT (friday at the track).
When I asked my insurance agent about it, he said that I would mostly likely be covered but would be dropped right after.

It is in the fine print of the policy, so just read it and you'll know for sure. You can call them and ask, but the policy is what matters. The person on the phone could say that you'd be covered all they want, that doesn't mean it's true.
Hmm I wouldn't mind going too. Not sure I can swing it. Being on the track 3 weekends in September might be a bit much
That's the thing. If it's not timed, it's not racing. My wife calls my HPDE's "racing" and I'm always correcting her. I don't want her mentioning "Racing" to the insurance agent by accident.
My insurance company didn't drop me. Then again, I'd never try to get them to cover me again if I totalled another car on the track. I'd just eat it and try to salvage some parts out of the car. That's why I tracked a Civic for 2 years after totalling the Type-R. I wanted a car I could wreck and just walk away from (though I have into my civic about what my '2k cost me).
I now feel that my skills are good enough to track a more expensive car. You know, many instructors don't like instructing in early '2ks (00-03) because they're considered difficult for noobs to drive.

I have American Collectors Insurance HPDE insurance this year. Unfortunately they will not continue the program any more (or sign up new people) so I'll be looking for something new next year....
