Tracking the S2000 in the rain...
So I have a track event at Laguna on sunday, except that it looks like it might rain on sunday. Now, I have 2 sets of wheels. 18 inch Superleggeras with Kuhmo 712s and the stock set with almost brand new (full tread) Kuhmo Victoracers. If it does rain, which set would be preferable to use? The 712s have lots of tread left, but the rubber is not as sticky as the Victos.
If I had to guess, a light rain and damp conditions would favor the victos, and heavy rain and puddles would favor the 712s. Does that sound reasonable? Does anyone have experience with this?

The Victoracers will be faster unless there is a good bit of standing water (more than an inch) This is assuming it is warm enough to bring up tire temps.
With that said, the 712 will be much less likely to hydroplane etc. If you were competing, I would run the Victoracers. If you just want to learn car control, and keep the car on the track the 712s may be the way to go. Up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

There was rain the last time I was out with the Victoracers mounted and I simply skipped sessions when there was alot of water. They did just fine in the wet without puddles but getting a few laps to warm them up is important.
Assuming you can't trailer the extra 4 tire/wheels and you have to drive there with what you will run on, I would have the tendency to go on the 712s. As already stated the VictoRacers could be faster in a damp track environment if the tires can get a chance to get good and warm, but if it is raining and the track stays wet and there are some puddles, your hands could be very busy on the steering wheel keeping the backend of the car behind you.
Have a blast!
