In a quest to get even lower on the passenger side since my cage takes away a lot of the legroom, I converted the buddyclub rails to a full solid. It was pretty easy - all I did was cut off the rail and then replaced it with a flat bar of steel. I welded on bolts so that I don't need to hold it from spinning.

Looks like the only buddy club steel shown there are the bent tabs at the end? Looks great to me!
Do you feel any flex on track? Any movement?

That's correct, I just kept the buddy club steel tabs since I know they're bent to the correct angles. As you can see it's pretty easy to remake those as well for our car but I didn't bother. My only problem with the buddy club tabs are the slots are huge so I had to use a few steps of fender washers to feel comfortable.

This is how I have my driver's side mounted as well and I don't feel any movement. I tug on the seat like crazy to make sure there is no slop and it's rock solid. A few guys at the tech shed have also commented that finally someone has a hard mounted seat. I got about 2" of headroom doing this and eliminating the sliders.

Here are some photos of the seat installed:

Well, that looks like a full blown out racecar, so forget all of my comments. I'm just a twice a year track day guy with a stock car.

Broomstick test should be easier to pass with a full cage - and if all else fails, you can probably just add a loop to the top of the roll bar. In racing, fabrication is the name of the game.

I also question (mildly and without any criticism intended) the remains of the Buddy seat rail. But what do I know? Still, they look pretty flimsy. To avoid ripping out in a violent crash, those bolts holding the seats maybe should be coming from a plate under the floor. A project for next winter, perhaps.

Have fun and keep the shiny side up!

The welds on my buddy club rails cracked under normal use. I was never even in an accident. After closer inspection the metal fit was junk.
