Unsprung weight
Also:
- 16" wheel --> weight 20 lbs
- 17" wheel --> weight 20 lbs
The disadvantage of the 17" wheel is that the same weight is spread into a bigger diametre, so when the wheel is rotating the inertia is bigger than the 16" wheel.
In other words, the weight must be as close to the center as possible.
Another extreme example:
a 10 lbs 19 rim is WORSE than a 20 lbs 16 rim for the same reason!
in fact a 10 lbs wheel is weighting more than 15 - 20 lbs when the car is running!
(sorry for my bad english)

If you're going to buy rims, I'd look at the CE28n from Volk. Lighter and with better offsets than the SSR comps.
What does "offset" mean, and what does it mean to have a "better" offset? I see the terms used, but I don't know their significance.
Thanks!
one way to look at it is...
The "better" the offset is then the wider the tire you can fit on the car.
Those SSRs with non ideal offsets will force you to run thinner tires so that they dont rub. The CE28Ns with much better offsets will let you run much wider tires.
It comes down to how well centered the wheel is in the wheel well.

Don't forget that you will have tires on those rims that will make the overall diameters similar. A 16" tire of the same diameter and width as a 17" tire will be heavier because of the thicker sidewall.

The CE28n is a good deal more expensive than the SSR Competition, and it appears that there is an indeterminate wait for them.
