Thumbs up VSA and 16" wheels

Hi track junkies -

I bought a new '07 in Sept. to replace my '02 and have had it to the track twice (I am not a track-a-holic - just track socially). The first time (Streets of Willow), I used my AP1 track rims and corded my front tires (Toyo RA-1s). I didn't notice any VSA indicators, except the one that's supposed to light up when it's disabled (I disabled it for driving on the track, since I'm used to an AP1).

I bought new front tires (shaved to 4/32) and at my next event (Laguna Seca) I put the AP1 rims with new tires on the car. All the VSA indicators and the "Brake" indicator immediately lit up (there are two VSA indicators - one that indicates you've manually shut if off and one that says something's wrong). I checked all the sensors and they were all fine (thinking maybe I whacked one of them while changing pads or tires). The indicators went on and off at various times during the day.

I drove the event and didn't have any problems - although I was a little nervous about whether the VSA was off since I couldn't control it - but I guess if the system says there's a problem, it must disable it ... ??

My guess is that the VSA system noticed that the overall diameter of the front 16" wheel with full tread is more than the 17" stock wheels with street tires.

Question - has anyone else with a MY07 or MY08 had this problem? Should I be worried?

Kathy

have you put the two wheels/tires together? They are almost exactly the same diameter.

edit- I read this this morning and it makes alot more sense now that im sober.

But theres got to be hundreds of new S owners that have mounted various 18 and 19 inch wheels... You would think that those overall diameters would be off as much as your 225/16...
Good luck!

Did you go off course? If you did, it would do that. Try resetting the system by taken out the negative terminal on your battery.

VSA is very sensitive to tire dimensions. If you want to use 16" wheels and tires with VSA - make sure that circumference (sp?) of the tire is as close to stock as possible. Check the manual for reference. ie My Civic manual clearly stated 2 tire sizes with which VSA can operate safely. My 17" Toyos make VSA so sensitive that i can't even turn a slight turn without it applying the brakes.

No. The indicators came on immediately after I removed the stock 17's and put on the 16" AP1 wheels. As I said, at a previous event, the 16's didn't cause a problem, but the fronts were close to cording.

Throughout the day, the indicators would go off when I first started the car, but would come on again within a few seconds.

I assume if the indicators are all on, VSA is disabled. I didn't notice it kicking in at all at any time. However, the ABS was still working.

Are others using 16's with MY07 or MY08 cars?

redhead, what about disabling the VSA all together at the track? It should behave like any other pre-06 S (?)

i'm confused...

if you've disabled VSA...it shouldn't be activating "lighting on and off" at all...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think 08's have the TPMS.
