Weight reduction: What are the best mods?

Hey guys,

I have been tracking my 2005 and generally have been very pleased. The only mod I have done so far is a set of Tein coilovers.

I want to reduce the weight of the car by a couple of hundred pounds. What do I need to do to make this feasible?

Where can I save the most weight?

Thanks in advance
Tony

pull out your interior. I did mine tonight, and must have taken 200lbs out of the car:

It looks prettier in my spare bedroom:

Get lighter wheels for starters. It's unsprung and will give you the best bang for $ weight wise. 17" Volk CE28N

You having starvation problems? I find 5 gallons isn't enough to do 10 laps without running into hesitation issues. I think how much gas you carry depends on how long you are on track. 10-2.5 mile laps = 25 miles @ 7? MPG = 4 gallons. I generally find I need at least 8 gallons (2/3rd full) to make it through an HPDE session without starvation.

OMG, that guy is from the same town as me. :banghead:

The first things I would do, would be...

remove spare, tools, get lighter rims and exhaust

afwfjustin 05-29-2006 03:38 PM

I have single exhaust with test pipe -60lbs
gutted trunk -42 lbs
J's header -13 lbs
emptied windshield washer reservoir -8 lbs
cold air intake -3 lbs
coilovers -12 lbs
SSR Comps -16lbs
drycell battery -15lbs (I'm locating mine in rear to help with weight ratio - most is removed from rear so rear end can get trigger happy sometimes too often)

I will also be removing my front bumper support, which is supposedly another 12-15 lbs. I will leave in the rear because I do not want to take out any more weight out of the rear.

I just need to figure out another 15-20 pounds and I'll reach my goal of -200 pounds before gasoline. Maybe CF mirrors? How much do stock mirrors weight?

I only fill up with 10 dollars worth of gas at a time, which is usually only 3 gallons so I'm saving another 60-70 pounds there.

Good luck with your weight savings.
