Default What to make splitter dams out of?

First off, Im not real great at custom fabrication. I was at Lowe's the other day and found a sheet of plastic I thought would do the trick, but it's brittle and less pliable than really required. Will be at VIR at the end of this month so Im at least going to try to see if they hold up. They are at least wind tested to 105mph though

Here's some pics: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/111...t__p__23867572

Also, the splitter doesn't go far back enough to "seal" the dams against it...should that be a worry?

i think i read before that someone used door weather striping with the hard plastic on it, also purchased at homedepot. i can't speak for the aerodynamics of it not touching the splitter but i would think it is going to help either way, but most likely work better if it is attached. i have some thin (maybe 3 layer) carbon fiber that i used for mine.

Lots of folks use the landscape edging.

I used carbon fiber personally.

Seems like a small sheet of thin aluminum would be easy enough to cut and place, and could be bent at the bottom to seal up with your splitter.

Thin carbon fiber can be cut very cleanly with a set of decent tin snips. That eliminates the occurrence of splintering commonly seen with using saw type tools. Either way I would recommend putting painter's tape on each side before you cut it (good so you can mark where to cut in pen not on the final surface too!).

In terms of thickness, treat carbon just like aluminum if you are getting solid sheet (as in no honeycomb/foam core). I would recommend about 1/16th" (0.06") for a set of durable splitter dams.

You can buy sheet carbon at a bunch of different online places:

http://www.acpsales.com/High-Gloss-Woven-Sheets.html (I have bought their carbon tubing and its very nice, I'm sure their sheet carbon is just as nice)

https://www.rockwestcomposites.com/p.../402-410-group (Same as ACP, Bought other things but never sheet from here. Always had good experience)

http://www.mcmaster.com/#8181k32/=111j72t (never bought their carbon but i'm sure it would look fine)

I use prepeg carbon fiber (looks like a roll of fabric) then I make a mold of the part I want and use the mold to make the carbon fiber part in question...vacuum bag it, bake in the autoclave for a couple hours.

For parts requiring some strength...like a splitter, i put some honeycomb in between the carbon layers.
