Wheel weight comparison...
OLD FARTS.. ahahhahahaha... If they would just give you something like 50 runs at the Auto-X, then you would at least be getting some decent seat time. 3 runs is just enough to get excited...then...go home...with blue balls.

He seems to think that autoXing is only for old farts that either don't have a life or have used their life up. I was just picking on him. Scot's a great guy but he just doesn't "get" autocrossing.
Yeah, you've got a life! If your subs crews are anything like most of them down here you spend half your time making sure all the ex-cons stay honest, sober, and not stoned while they're working on your jobs. It may be worse down here near the beach but I'm sure you've got your share.
BTW, now I really want a set of those JDM's!

Ouch, only three runs! The only time we get less than 6 runs is when we have a 1 3/4 mile course and people can't remember the way around it. We also get all the "fun runs" after the event that our tires can stand.

I think our area has toooo many Auto-Xers.... you basically pay $20 to get 3 runs, then $10 more for 3 more fun runs... after that...ya go home...
There is not "keep on running til ya puke" session!!!!
I wish our area was more like yours CG!!! I would probably enjoy it more. I will stick with not Auto-xing. I may try dragracing this friday...whoooohoooo...14.8 or bust.. ahah

That's exactly why I don't Auto-X around here. It's all hurry up and wait.
You'll wait around 5 or 6 hours to get 3 short runs. Often there's no time for fun runs as there are local noise ordinances after 6pm.
So you wait around all afternoon and get less than 3 or 4 minutes of actual running. When I do a track day I'll get 1.5 hours of running in an afternoon. Admittedly a track day does cost a lot more, but my time is easily worth the difference.

From 1 vs. 2 the JDM wheels weigh 5.5 or 6 lbs less than stock. That means they weigh 12 or 13 lbs. That is a really light for a roadworthy wheel of this size. (versus pure race wheel with curb-fragile thin rims.) It's not much more than the much smaller modular 13 by 5.5 Formula Ford wheels I used to run, which I recall were 10 lbs.
When this first came up, I was skeptical that the JDM would be that much lighter. They are still expensive, but the weight savings is indeed significant for the all-out preparer.
I was also surprised after all the past discussion that Hoosier tires were only 4 lbs lighter than Kuhmo in the front and 5.5 in the rear.
There is no sunstitute for real data.
Next time yourare out burning tires on a test day, how about back to back skidpad, 60 foot times and slslom comparisons on Hoosier - Kuhmo.
I . Hoosier
32.5lb/32.5lb - F/R
2.Stock/Hoosier
38lb/38.5lb - F/R
3.Stock/Kumho
42lb/44lb - F/R

Those were on the car so we couldn't weigh them... but judging by 'feel' they are very close to the Kumhos. They are heavy because of all that extra tread they carry. We'll try to weigh them sometime soon (although ours don't have much tread left!)
