Default Wheels for RA1 245 width tires

My series requires the use of a spec RA1 tire with a section width of 8.5" or less (according to Toyo's spec sheet). That means 245's max. I'll need to buy new wheels to accommodate these. Does anyone have a recommendation on which wheels in which size? I like the CE28Ns I have. Can I get these in 16"? What wheel width should I use? 7" 6.5" Should I use 16" wheels or 17"?

I'm guessing it will be 245/45R16 all around.

Honda has a nice set of 16" rims for our car which are usually found for cheap

CE28s come in 16", yes. The 16" wheel/tire combo would be lighter than the 17" wheel/tire combo, but you'd have less sidewall stiffness. It'd be a toss up at the end of the day with the major difference being the 16's costing less

For a given tire, wider wheels will put more rubber on the ground, up to a point. With a 245, I'd want to run at least a 9" wide wheel, maybe up to 9.5-10" depending on the tire.

Seriously?? a 9" wheel would have a wider section than the 8.5" tire??

This would explain a lot of what I've been seeing on tuned cars. I've always wondered about where the reverse point is.

i.e.

For a given wheel, when does increasing the tire (STREET) width stop being beneficial? guess it all depends on sidewall strength.

The tire manufacturer will usually (if not always) spec the wheel width ranges for each given tire size. Toyo says 7.5-9" for the 245/45/16 so I would assume that going over 9" in width would be overkill and/or cause the tread pattern to cup in the middle. They also don't show a section width on the site I'm looking at so make sure that it meets your 8.5" stipulation. Their default wheel size (the one they use for measuring specs) is 8" for that tire so one could assume that is the ideal width but who knows??

This is what I'm looking at: [URL=http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/product_spec.asp?lpid=18968&name=Proxes%20RA-1

I must be confused, 8.5" is 205 width but I know that it's the 245 width which is spec. Oh well.

Checling I see Toyo recommends a 7.5-9" whell width. I've got 2 9x17 CE28Ns so I'll just get some more.
