Where to begin
I read through the FAQ posts and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm not wanting to do autocross, I want to eventually get into competition circuit. But I have no clue what classes the S2k competes in. Just looking for some education material to get me "on track". Haha. A pun. No seriously though.
Find a group or organization that runs at tracks near you. Stop by to volunteer or spectate or better yet, participate.
Ask for a ride-along with an instructor.
There are many orgs but NASA and SCCA are the only two that I know of that have a program to go from beginner to actual race license competition.

Sign up for a event that offers instructors for beginners like NASA Florida. There is an event this June! There is a large group of us who will give you ride-alongs and be your instructor, offer advice on car setup etc.

I live in Mobile and look at joining NASA. The NOLA Region in New Orleans would be a great place to start. Look at the website to see what safety equipment is required. Nola spring HDPE are almost over they don't pick back up until September. If you would like to talk more about this just pm me. Later David
Your comunity organizer is King Tut. Hes and E30 W2W racer and a S2000 time attacker. Find him here. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/northern...panhandle-303/ Go to the website for the tracks your willing to drive to. Every track has an event schedule where you can find an event that meets your schedule requirements. From there go to the website for the organization for the event you chose. See if the organizer meets your budget, instruction, saftey, car prep, and track time requirements. The last thing to consider is the S2K comunity. Having a squad of S2K supporters at the event can be a huge help for learning the lessons of the track. Some guys are jokers but most have usefull info.

I thought the same thing about Auto-X until I actually did one! There is a lot of car control involved compared to larger tracks. The higher speed track I go to seems easy compared to autocross. I had time to think on the straights and corners were much longer, but autocross is so much faster paced. Anyways, the best thing to do is to get involved in some sort of a driving school type event with an instructor. That way you can build good habits from the beginning and not have to try to fix them later on.
Are you moving from Destin or to Destin? I live in Fort Walton Beach. The two closest tracks are NOLA Motorsports Park (New Orleans, LA) and Barber Motorsports Park (Birmingham, AL). All you really need to get on track is a reliable car, good brakes, and a helmet. SCCA runs Track Night in America events at NOLA Motorsports Park during the week after work, so you would have to drive the 4 hours to NOLA and then run the sessions that end that night. They offer very limited in car instruction. I prefer running NASA events where for $300 you get an entire weekend of track time along with a dedicated instructor. I will be running at the NASA NOLA region event at NOLA Motorsports park this weekend. You are free to tag along this weekend or any weekend I head to the track.
