come run ITR w/ james then or ITE.

You're moving up here? Now you'll be close to the good tracks.

[QUOTE=krazik,Apr 28 2007, 09:33 AM]why?

krazik 04-30-2007 01:52 PM

thats all fine and dandy, till you consider that your weight numbers are based on 270hp which we can't get without an ECU. An ECU which you can't get because of the (very dumb) current ECU rules.

I'd like to see the ECU rules fixed or the s2k re-classified at 240HP. We won't get any good information about whats truely competive or not till probably next year as there are what maybe 5-6 ITR cars in the country that have made a race yet.

effectively you and your board gave us an -extra- 12.5% weight penalty for HP we can't (short of spending HUGE $) get.

JoshS 04-30-2007 02:00 PM

Well, the spending huge $$, the fact is that it's available, which means it's in the car's potential. SOMEONE will spend it. There are lots of ITS BMWs out there with custom Motecs stuffed into their stock housing. This isn't off-the-shelf, and it's not cheap. But people do it.

But that said, the committee agrees with you about the ECU rules -- they need to change. The last few Fastracks have had requests for member comment about these rules, with a couple of different takes on proposed new wording. Please weigh in.

In a nutshell, we're considering either A) attempting to get the rule to say what we think it was intended to say, namely that chips and reflashes are okay, but wholesale replacing-the-ECU-guts-in-the-stock-housing is not; or B) opening up the rule, to allow complete ECU replacements of any sort, but only limited changes to the available sensors, and no changes to the intake air flow.

With either rule change, it's possible car weights would need to change as a result.

Please read Fastrack, and write a letter in with your comments.

No changes will happen to this rule mid-season, this would be an '08 change.

PS: I wasn't on the committee when the ITR weights were established.
