Default 01 s2k vs. ? GTI

Ok....so I got my ass handed to me over and over this morning (on 495). A red GTI kicked my butt from any speed to any speed (up to about 120). I saw a cooler hiding behind his front bumper, but heard no BOV. When I was next to him though it sounded like it was spooling up. If I was in VTEC and that spooling sound was going on I could keep up, but once it kicked in on his car....that thing was GONE. When I was behind him I noticed like fog (not smoke) coming from his exhaust when he was really pushing it. I hit my brakes at the end when I saw a cop and put my window down and told him so he wouldnt get pulled over. Friendly guy.

Any idea what the heck he had? I know stock I would've kicked his butt.

My top was up windows up and just me (about 145 lbs)

His windows were up no passenger and im assuming a turbo kit?

GTI's come with a 1.8 liter turbo. that means with a few thousand of well spent money, it'd be able to walk an S2000 no problem.

all it needs is a $500 dollar ecu and a few bolt-ons. would beat an s2000 but wouldn't blow it away. Probably has a bigger turbo in there. I used to be an audi guy and the 1.8T's could easily be modded.

Lesson learned: an audible BOV is not necessary for a butt whooping. The Gti was apparently sleeping quietly.
on warning the Gti about the cop.

The guy was nice I didn't want him to get nailed by the cop. It sounds like a larger turbo then hence the long time to spool up. Very sweet sleeper car. He pulled HARD on my car....8-10 car lengths before I'd give up...then he'd slow down and we go from a different speed. It was fun just shocked I couldn't even stay even with the guy. Maybe someone local will read this and know the guy. Thanks for the info guys!

I agree, the white "fog" speaks of nitrous... but I can speak to the speed of the 1.8 - with about 2G in my GTI (sold), I could run with some very big cars... of course that is only from a roll. From a dig, its another story...

Like the above poster said, it definitely doesn't take a lot of money to hang with an S2k. Chip, diverter valve, and turboback exhaust should allow them to walk a stock S2k.

The car you raced probably upgraded the laughable K03 stock turbo for a slightly less laughable K04.

K03, it's so cute:
