Default 06 S2k vs Modded RX-7

So I was just cruising around tonight, doing my usual route, not even driving fast... just pleasure, leisure driving. So I'm coming down a 2-lane road (Rt 17 for the locals) that turns into a highway after a nice S turn. Well... I'm driving and I look ahead of me and there he is (with a passenger), an RX-7, lowered, aftermarket wheels, and a huge a$$ exhaust and I figured he'd want to play and I was right. I get in right behind him just as the S turn is starting and he attempts to get away... not happening at all. So as we hit the highway section, he exits off (which leads to another highway) and some more S turns and he tries once again with me on his a$$ (not being able to pass due to only one lane.

So we finally merge over (Rt 3 East towards NYC for the locals) and I hear him downshift and he waits for no traffic and I sit there right behind him in second gear waiting for his move. He goes, and I follow chase... he was not able to pull away from me. Considering he was about 2 car lengths ahead of me at the start due to me leaving some cushion just in case he needed to stop, I was able to inch on him and reach near his bumper by the end of 3rd gear and a little of 4th. I was not able to pass cause only our lane was open.

So we toy a little bit and I follow and he exits (Hoboken exit) and I pull up next to him. His face was priceless... he had such a shocked look on his face and the first thing he said was...

Him: "What do you have done to that car?"
Me: "Some bolt-ons and a tune."
Him: "Yeah man cause I couldn't pull away from you at all."
Me: "I really like your ride... looks really good."
Him: "I wouldn't mind having an S2000... that thing looks amazing."

He ends up telling me about a meet (in Edgewater for locals) that he's going to and there was supposed to be a new R35 there but it wasn't. I was going to ask about his mods but light turned green. I swung by the meet but the R35 wasn't there and there were wayyyyyyy too many cops, so I left.

Cliffnotes: Modded RX-7 tries to pull on S2k on turns and straight but was not able to. My mods are I/TP/E + tune.

FD's are very tempermental cars but assuming that he had the usual bolt-ons he should have eaten you up. I owned two RX-7s and if they weren't such a pain in the ass I'd still own one. Stock for stock it should be slightly quicker than the S2000 but it responds well to mods just like any turbo...a couple of bolt-ons puts it in the 12's and out of reach for a non-FI'd S2000. Sounds like another case of a faster but poorly driven car.

I have to admit... I do get a little worried about those new Mazdaspeeds. With some simple bolt-ons, and they're trapping around 103, which is about on par with a bolt-on S2k.

That might be the case... but how bad of a driver can you be in going straight from a second gear roll?... seriously. Even when we were toying around and pulling from third gear, I was still reeling him in.
Obviously he was pretty bad...as I said with basic bolt-ons which it sounds like he had he should have been a good bit quicker. His car weighs the same as yours and should be putthing down significantly more power. It's not rocket science to figure out that two cars that weigh about the same and one probably has 100+RWHP on the other as to which should be quicker.

I'm not doubting you about the Rx7... I know they are beasts.

Well... either way... I inched on him. Whether he sucked as a driver or maybe he only had turbo back mods... the results are what they are.

I tell ya though... things sounded cool. It was quiet but had a very distinct sound to it.

It was nice...
