It's rarely the car. They don't speak. What p'd me off about the owner wasn't the fact that he had no idea what his engine was putting out (many don't), rather his "is that Honda's Miata?" remark...a pathetic attempt to flip me off. That's like an Alfa Spyder Veloce owner (and yes, I've owned them as well) saying, "is that Mazda's Alfa?" with a smirk.
The Miata will always have relevence in the sportscar community but it wasn't the first convertible and certainly won't be the last. Owners (of all makes) need to rejoice in the fact that there are so many new choices available to us. I got the same "snickers" from many Miata owners when I owned my MR2-S. Without the popularity of convertibles as it is today, those of us who literally demand them as a daily driver (90% of the cars I've owned since the first have been ragtops) would all be fighting over the last few TR6's still on the road.

The 1999-2000 Miatas have 140 hp at the crank.
The 2001-2002 was advertised early as having 155 hp at the crank but after early tuners dynoed the car they weren't getting the same hp number that mazda claimed. The revised figure is 142 hp. It was a case of bad pubic relations for mazda. It sucks that such a douchebag drives the same car I do.

Just for clarifacation purpose...had the miata driver had 160 rwhp then the S would have been toasted easily especially from a stand still. I used to do it with a 150 rwhp, now almost double that hp...ZO6 are more competitive.
Im not making an excuse for the guy being a jerk..they come in all shapes and sizes.
