1980 Corvette dusted
i was coming home up Randolph (a twisty, uphill 3 lane road) and i see a white 1980s Corvette. always loved how they looked so i decided to see if he was fast at all (i know nothing about american cars). i get up on his tail and he tries to lose me but he can't do it at all. then i pull up next to him and we both gun it. i put about a car on him after 4 seconds (3rd gear). then we line up for the final run at the top of the hill (road is now flat and straight). a car is in the middle lane, i'm in the left and he's in the right. i gun it from 5k rpm in 2nd, and go until i'm 3/4 way through 4th gear. i put about 4 cars on him. he turns left as i'm in front of him, so i swing a quick U with the tail drifting around the turn completely (for my own satisfaction). i make the right where he turned and catch up to him. he then tries to lose me again over the speed bumps and his exhaust bottoms out and sparks fly everywhere. we then line up at the red light and i tell him that it's the best looking Corvette of them all. he thanks me and says that he just bought it and the timing is off (hmmmm). i ask "so you weren't pushing it back there?" he says no and we part ways.
i felt pretty awesome leaving a vette like that. do you guys think something was really wrong, or was i really just faster than him?
it was this Corvette in this same color:

Agreed with LagunaBlueS2k.
IIRC, that generation of vette was shortly after a revision to emmissions restrictions so they severely gutted the power to meet the DEQ standards.
Pretty sad for the car, but not a surprising turnout.

That is the funny thing... the old C3 corvettes made a lot more power than the the end of the C3's running which spanned a whopping 14 years (1968 - 1982).
