I ran what I thought was a fake lightning on Saturday. But then I see on autos.yahoo.com that the 2002 SVT Lightning picture they have looks JUST like the truck I ran.

Did they change the body style of the lightnings?

 

edmunds shows the 2002 the same as the '01
carpoint also shows the same

the svt site doesnt show an '02 lightning yet

 

how'd the race go? w/ just intake/pully and ecu upgrade there suppose to run mid 12's. there was a dude at HRP running consistant 12.8's on a crappy humid night w/ an '01 lighting

 

Well, I thought it was fake, so I wasn't really worrying about him at first. I was just rolling down Westheimer going to the HouStooks dinner. I ended up next to the "Lightning" after a few lights of just following behind. We're just rolling at 50-something.

All of the sudden I hear him gun it on me. Instinct took over and I drop to 2nd, gained a half a car length through 2nd...then shut it down and hit the brakes because there was a car in front of me. That was pretty much the extent of the run. His lack of performance makes me think it was just a modded F-150, instead of a real Lightning.

 

i don't think i've ever seen a lightning, but i'm pretty sure they look like the first one and not the second one. everyone tells me that they're supposed to be really fast, but i still want to run one, 'cause i keep thinking "it's just a truck."

 

i ran one at the track he was up about a car and a half the whole time just sitting back cruising down the strip and ran a 13.8 vs my 13.9

 

Lightnings consistently run high 13s

 

I've only seen lightnings that look like the first picture. That second one looks like a dog.

 

More info:

The truck was blue, had cleared out back lights that had a round lens (sorta like the S2000). There was an SVT badge on the tailgate. It obviously had Lightning badges on the sides. It was a little lower than the one pictured above, not as low as the real Lightning, though. It definitely had an extended cab with the 3rd door. It sounded modified, but I didn't hear the SC whine that I've heard on other Lightnings. It looked brand new.

It reminded me of the Black SVT Lightning Cobra Extended Cab that I saw once. Yeah, it had the cobra emblem under the Lightning emblem...interesting eh?

Oh, that reminds me, I saw a brand new M3 with a body kit and Kompressor emblem on the back this weekend. Figure that one out.
