Nice post.. My one encounter with a new Cobra resulted in me being pulled pretty easily at highway speeds. The guy was young and the car was modded. Those new Cobras are a lot of bang for the buck. Good run..

Marcus Frost on M3Forum.com / explained what I experienced, and what I mentioned above . . . I heard the SVT Cobra shift three times verses me only shift twice ! ! ! The gears on the M are loooooonnng, and from a roll some of the disadvantage was taken out of the factor . . .

I love this sh!t!... here it goes; on my way back from cruising Alki I spot a SVT Cobra... he notices me as well, and we give eachother a thumbup... then I hit it to let him know I want to run, then back off. Then he speeds up and hits it, then backs off...

Exiting West Seattle Bridge onto I-5, we take the immediate exit on to I-90... this is where it went down. I took the first corner at a 110mph... the Cobra couldn't corner like the M3...

Both the M3 and the Cobra's are pretty damn nice performance cars. The Mustang does pretty well considering the cars outdated chassis. But if I remeber correctly the Cobra traps 110+mph while the M3 runs around 103-106? Good run considering the odds were stacked against you, 4.6 SC versus 3.2L N/A.

M3 traps from 105 - 107 is the usual for the M3.

The Cobra Traps 109-114 depending on the dirver. I've seen as low as 106 for ythe Cobra and 101.9 for the M at Englishtown Raceway.

I'm very suprised you hung with him so well. Good job. Just watch out for the modded ones...you can't hear or see a pully swap.

However, from a roll the M3s long redline and gearing help it a bit, and what it really comes down to is driver ability. If you are banging gears faster, starting at the right rpm, etc, you can have the advantage, but power wise the Vette has the overall advantage.

Just stating facts...

97Snake . . .This is the quote from Marcus Frost M3forum.com ^^

Although I def believe you.....

My friends have a 2003.5 e46 m3, s4 (v8), and one has the new cobra.

They are all about equal drivers. They raced tons of times. The cobra leaves them both by about 5 cars from a stop. If they roll, and the cobra is in boost, the gap is mmmuuuch greater.

Good run nonetheless. Another example of how anything can happen on the street.

Nice run just remember you beat the driver and not the car. The car is a substantially quicker car especially at the speeds you run. I truly believe I could beat an M3 in an 03 Cobra using only 1 arm. The Cobra has 100 more RWHP and weighs about the same and the torque difference makes this one a no brainer. Give me an 03 Cobra at those speeds and I will whip anyone including Michael Schumacher in a stock M3. I trapped at 113-114 mph in my Cobra and 106-107 mph in my M...that is HUGE margin between the two. I'm guessing you'll find alot of non-stock Cobras and even just an exhaust on that car puts it out of range for an M3 at ANY speed. Great run though but expect to lose most of those.
