I still say the RX-7 can be reliable if tuned correctly and taken care of religiously. Rotaries are very temperamental engines. One ping or an over heated session and it is lights out, unlike piston engines that handle abuse MUCH better. I have over 147K on my car and its on its second engine and I am sure it would still have it original one had a certain tuner not screwed me.

when i drove the LS1 FD the chassis was nowhere near as rigid/confidence inspiring as the s2000. it's sad to mag race but most best motoring clips i've watched seem to have the FD handling just as well if not better than the s2000 though. strange...

J's Racing S2000 vs RE Amemiya RX-7
J's wins despite a 150hp disadvantage...the RX-7 beats the new Skyline GTR

That's obviously tuned vs tuned...I won't argue that the S2000 is more hardcore out of the box than the FD. BUT, I've owned both with good suspension setups and I can say that my S2000 is easier to drive fast on the track.

I sincerely love both cars without exception. My FD had a PFS ecu, I strongly prefer the Apexi Power FC due to its ease of use...it's like comparing DOS vs Windows. I just find that the S2000 takes better to abuse despite being slightly down on power (mainly torque).

Hands down a stock FD should take a stock s2000 anyday in a straight line.. mod for mod the FD wins also.. I see alot of n/a modded s2ks struggling to hit low 13s and the FD has been known to break into the 12s on intake/exhaust.. Not dissing on the s2k because I love them, its just fact.

Stock for stock, it's a close race between the two, with the RX7 having a slight advantage (both are able to run high 13's stock in the 1/4 mile, with the RX7 achieving that time with more consistency). A stock RX7 is by no means a monster. And yes, of course the RX7 responds better to mods.

Stock FDs are well known to hit low 13s, while the s usually hits a low 14... in my experience anyways..

Your friend is lucky to have a mint condition FD. It's prestine with that low mileage. The race is about expected to me, with the FD twin turbo vs all motor. On the straight away it's all him, how bout next time go carve some corners and see who comes out on top.

Probably the FD. There's a reason why the FD is in the "SS" class in Solo II autox along with the Z06 and Elise.

A good driver in almost anything can take a mediocre driver in an S2k, and despite what everyone on this board thinks of themselves there are very few people that can actually take the S2k to its limit.
