Post 996TT vs. modded S4

I went out late last night to get groceries and took out the TT because the weather was nice, any hoo, heading home i run into a modded 2000-2001 silver s4. I could see exhaust and maybe lowered. Otherwise i have no idea what was done to it. I had groceries in the back seats and the front trunk had 6 12 packs of pop. There were two guys in the S4. We didnt launch hard but from the light up to 40 mph we were practically neck and neck and only did i start to pull away over 50. We then went a second time starting around 50 to speeds that i should not have been going (i registered 1 3 7) i finally pulled several car lengths.

I Kept hitting my rev limiter because i was driving the s around the whole week. Do any of you guys do that when you get used to revving to 9K?

Point being, i have a new found respect for the 2.7 TT. They must respond well to mods. I am thinking about a stripped s4 for my next track car or maybe an new evolution.
I forgot to mention cool guys, both of us exchanged multiple thumbs up!!

K24 turbos, beefed up tranny, bigger intercoolers gives 444hp vs. 415 hp & 457 lb.-ft. of tq. osu S2k, time to go for the GIAC programming. You want to talk about adapting well to mods. Put a chip in your car and you can go to 500-550 hp easy. Not to mention that it is supposed to improve your turbo lag, which is a little more apparent in the X50 (bigger turbos) than in the "regular" 911 TT.

time to go for the GIAC programming.
Skip the GIAC route, overpriced. Upsolute makes a better product for 500 bucks. If you want to keep your warranty buy a second computer for 800 bucks and use it. My car has been to the dealer and they have not said a thing about the upsolute mod.

Good luck with the exhaust, I refuse to pay four grand for an exhaust I could make myself for under 200 bucks if I got off my lazy ass. I find it interesting that there are so many people selling overpriced crap on the porsche boards to other porsche members ...

S4 and track car are two words that do not belong together. Even stripped the car is too heavy. Audi must have gotten a good deal on depleted uranium.

Yeah Upsolute is pretty good too, but I heard of a few failures with them, & also heard that they have had a few productions (assembly line) issues lately. In general there were a few people that got 500+ whp from the Upsolute upgrade. The GIAC might be the safer way to go. very well thought out, and pretty much bulletproof programming. Safer (only about 500 hp) programming, though I hear that Upsolute now has an X50-specific program (tried to adapt the "regular" TT program to a few early X50's but ran into some issues). Parts are pretty much priced in proportion to the cost of the car. They were expensive for my MBZ, they were expensive for my Porsche, and on my friend's M3 they are expensive. gotta expect that. I wish I could get a cat back exhaust for those cars for $600 (instead of about double that).

Yeah, there are a lot of cool Porsche dealers that are really cool about mods. As a matter of fact my dealer helped me put on my fabspeed unit. I think it is because most of them race on the weekends. Worst experience I ever had was over at the Ford dealership, they saw I had a modified air intake and refused to work on my car, even though I told them I only wanted an oil change. c'mon, the Mustang has the largest aftermarket of any car. How can you not expect someone to play with it ?

Those seem to be rumors spread by the GIAC camp. Reality is the upsolute product is cheaper and produces more power. GIAC is trying to sell to people who believe paying more means you get more. These are the same people who will pay 4,000 dollars for a 2-300 dollar exhaust. A fool and his money are soon parted.

GIAC issues are not uncommon for what it's worth.

Actually quite a few posters on the 6speedonline board with no affiliations with GIAC, or Upsolute had those issues. Not rumors just a few examples. They make a good product, but they are also at the "bleeding" edge. To get 500-525 whp from a simple chip upgrade is pretty damn impressive. I'm glad Upsolute was only $500, as it caused GIAC/EVO to lower their price on the GIAC unit. I have rarely heard of an issue with the GIAC unit. Most people that have gone through GIAC have had pretty positive experiences, but you are right that they are pricey. I was lucky and got some Gemballa exhaust surplused on Ebay, got it straight from Gemballa and sounded great but I would love to see where they are selling $300 exhausts for the Porsche ? You pay for what you get. In general is Porsche stuff overpriced compared to the "regular" market yes, but it is like comparing S2000 part prices to a Honda Civic. The premium doesn't make sense, but it is what the market can bear.
