I had an E36 M3 ........

Assuming the exact same drivers (or driving skills for the matter) the S2000 will win. (I'm also basing this on the fact that the M Roadster with the E36 M engine lost to the S2K, keeping in mind that the M Roadster is lighter than the E36).

S2K spanking M Roadster on a straight way?
I know S2K can manage that against E36M3, but wouldn't be sure about M Roadsters...
Because that hasn't happened on my clock just yet...
I could have a bad launch and still manage 14s...
I am told that a bad launch on S2k translates to 15s or more?

Nothing against S2Ks...Just couldn't sit back and listen to ex-M3 owner selling out...even a M Roadster that he didn't have.

I posted this a while back. I have both cars...a 97 5spd M3 coupe and an 01 S2K. They are dead even from what I can tell. I think they S2K may pull a little bit at 80+. I take them both out and race them all the time. At the drag strip, both cars seemed to be very even. The M3 feels a little faster because of all the torque, but all in all, these cars are equal in speed.

Sorry M Power, didn't mean to offend you, and I am not selling out (I always loved and will love an M car). I said what I said about the M Roadster based on the article in C/D I think it was compairing the S2K against the M Roadster, Porsche Boxter and M-B SLK 320 where they ranked the S2K 1st, I know the 01 M Roadseter will probably spank the S2K on the straight line so will the Boxters S and the SLK 32 AMG (Disclaimer:I have and will always be a die hard German car fan, love the design and engineering of my S2K as well!, for the record, next car will hopefully be the new M3), and while I know that what magazines say may not very well happen in reality, I think it'll come down to the driver.

Since when did the Boxster S and M Roadster spank the S2000 in any type of race?

Yo, Dog, are you the E36 BMW internet policeman?

SpaceNeedle,

I am not the internet police, however I am bothered when people like yourself have the tenacity to instigate all this crap about how much better the S2000 is than the M3. Is that just because you suffer from penis envy? Is your screename indicative of your privates? Please tell me b/c I have been trying to state facts on this board and all you do is meddle. Both the cars are FINE vehicles, and I would love to have a S2000 myself.

from motor trend:

S2k
0-60: 5.2 (lol)
1/4:13.8/100.5

'00 M roadster
0-60: 5.3
1/4: 13.7/101.0

Boxster S
0-60: 5.39
1/4: 13.93/100.4

given how much easier it is to launch either the boxster or bimmer, the s2k could easily get spanked from a standing start...not to mention how "generous" those stats are to the s2k anyway...

the s2k is a great car but its hardly unbeatable.

From Road&Track January 2000

M Roadster
5.0sec 60miles
13.7sec 1/4miles

Most M Roadster people I know register 5.1 average, 5.5 with bad launch. I register 5.1 average with G-Tech, but I am yet to take my car to a track though. Anyone know a good track near Northern Virginia?
