The M package as you call it is the sport package, and it doesn't change the power. What it does change is the wheels, steering wheel, shift knob, suspension set-up, and front facia.

^^ Yes, but the 540i 6 speed is nothing to sneeze at. If they had run from a 60 roll or so, I would predict that the 540 would start to walk away.

I've played with a one before...at highway speeds, they are pretty quick.

540i's(of all years...E34/E39) are hwy MONSTERS.

 

one got a jump on me on the highway once, i was up to damn near 130 and i couldnt close the gap. they are very mean on the highway.

 

yeah these cars are quick on the highway. when my Evo was stock i got surprised by one on the highway.

the e39 m5 is just ridiculous (well, relatively speaking)
