Default AP1 vs. Mustang

Last week I raced a Mustang (98 body style) on the way home. This was before I got my J's. I had only TP. We slow battled in top gear for 2 lights so I knew he wanted to run. We get to another light and I look over to see if I can get confirmation. Nothing, He's just staring forward. The light turns green, We both roll off but I keep it in first and watch the tach go past 4 grand, I hear him punch it at this point so I do too. As we start we are pretty even. By the time I redline 1st my rear is right next to his window so I shift to 2nd and was thinking in my head "please chirp" and in my amazement it did, I was going full speed now and was just totally annihilating him. I left him by 5-6 cars at the top of 2nd but I felt relentless so I pulled all the way through 3rd just to show him how bad he'd been beat. I look in the rear view and see that he's about a half block behind.

He catches up at the next light and asks me if it's turboed. I say it's completely stock except for TP. I asked if his was a v-8 and he said "Nope, v6-" I guess he thought my exhaust leak sounded like a BOV.
I agree it does. Pretty cool guy though. Made my night.

You can tell the V6 apart from the V8 very easily just by the sound. Did you get to hear it well enough to tell? The '98 body style V8 was still pretty slow, so maybe he told you V6 just in an attempt to save face?

Why do they even make them? I never understood why they would make this car in this trim. It de-values the Mustang name. You don't see a V6 Corvette.

You gotta give it up to Honda's engineering. A little high output n/a 4 banger beatig the $hit outta a V6, and some of the V8s too!

They sold a surprising number of the V6's, the base model, to a bunch of women I've met and some female relatives. While it might devalue the brand to us I suspect it helped make that generation a financial success.
