Default Beware!!!

First of all, I would like to say hello to everyone on this board.

Although I do not own an S2000, I've got a friend who just bought a 2001. Just for the record, I personally like the car.

However, has anyone heard anything about the new Mazda RX-8 or the new Nissan Z Concept?

They sound like S2000 killers to me.

I'm not interested in getting flamed here; just want to know what you guys think about the new kids on the block.

The new Z is not a convertable... so what if it's faster in a straight line.. it's still not a convertable.

I'm a fan of all fast sports cars. I say good, the more the better. Also, there will always be faster cars.

If my memory serves me right, I read somewhere that the convertible Z will be released very soon after the coupe.

The RX-8 will have the same torque and about 10 more HP than the S2000. It is about 500 lbs heavier, so I don't think it will be faster. The Nissan Z will kill the S2000 (not looking for flames) with 280HP and 280 torque. There will always be cars that are faster, and more of them in the coming years. I guess the point is the S2000 looks and drives good with enough power under the hood to satisfy most people. It's not always about how fast you can go, for me, it's how much fun you can have. I still do this: whenever I drive the S2000.

I was reading CAR magazine. There was a RX-8 in one fo the article. I saw the RX-8 has a sequential gear box. I dunno if it is the Automatic sequential, or a REAL F1 manual Sequential. Anybody? but, RX-8 looks pretty cool. I would like to have one if it really looks that cool.

It's just my opinion. S2k makes people turn their head to see a well designed car. New nissan Z will turn peple's head to say, "Look at the ugly car.."

In a way, new Z is a killer. Eye killer.

cheers,

First off, let's not quote hp numbers and especially weight for the Z or the RX-8. I have a Road and Track article where one of the top guys of Mazda was interviewed. Supposedly Mazda is still tweaking the engine and hope to get more torque out of it. So I'm expecting (hoping!!) 180lb-ft when everything is said and done.

Also, he did mention that they might bring the RX-7 back. Which I hope means a twin turbo engine. I love the RX-7 and never got a chance to buy one, and am a little scared to buy one now considering it would be 7-8 years old and who knows how it was taken care of. So I plan on buying the RX-8 when it arrives, and if it arrives as expected. Oh, and I can't believe the car will weigh 3200lbs. It's a tiny car. I'm expecting closer to 3000. Still heavier but with the added torque (if it comes) it should be one close race.
