C5
Rolling through a tollbooth, second gear and a bit of third. (Nice chirp on his part.) He was the car ahead of me and put on a good bit of distance. Not surprising. I wish I could have given a slightly better showing, but it at least had an aftermarket exhause and I had a passenger. Oh well, it made me smile.
You wouldn't have had a chance even if the C5 was completely stock. They've got a serious power advantage.
My dad just got a '01 C5 and although it has amazing power delivery, I'd probably never get one. I didn't care for the large feel of the car, the really long shifter throws (well, long compared to the S2000), and the interior design. That's not really much to complain about but it's not my type of car. I did, however, enjoy the power!

Just for educational purposes, cat-back exhausts yield no power on a C5. You have to do the cats and in front to see a gain.
I agree about the long shifts. That's why many people put an aftermarket short shifter in after they get it. Feels MUCH better. Tell your dad to get a ripper and be done with it

Yes I have. I haven't heard it yet. I've got the lightest exhaust right now. Saved 40lbs over stock (no mufflers)
It's really not as loud as people think it would be. It sounds really good and the cats keep the sound down.

Cutting the cats off a C5 would give you around 8 rwhp or so, but the problem is you'd probably lose some low-end torque from the lack of back pressure, especially if you did headers. It's about the same. Just depends on where you want your power.
On a more modified engine, most guys are going with a high flow cat. The new Z06 is getting some high-flow cats stock.

I raced a C5 this past weekend too. I wasn't interested at first, but after watching him do a couple of fast take-offs, and some open road ahead, I figured what the heck. Rolling start, 2nd gear chirp, in the vtec zone, and he pulled right pass me. Just as I expected, his car was much too fast, and I told him so at the next stop light. I did notice that his idle sounded rather "lumpy" at idle. Either his car wasn't running so great (not likely) or do I smell some mods here?
I was really surprised this morning with the first C5 that I've heard take off quickly. The exhaust (I'm guessing it was stock since the tips matched my dad's new C5) really didn't sound that great to me. I know, exhaust notes are of personal tastes, but I expected more of a Flowmaster type of sound.
I think the Borla on my Jeep sounds better.
