Default Car weight and performance

I do not race but would like to know what my set up is capable of. Would a NA 250 whp S2000 that weighs 2560 be respectable on the track? Of course I guess it depends on what I am racing though.

An interesting question. Especially now, when new cars are getting heavier by the day. IMO, lighter is definitely more fun, but the heavy cars are getting the job done. Just look at the GTR, M series and the AMG cars. Some real pork there.

Having spent many a day on the track with with my stock S2K chasing the base model Elise and stock 350Z's, there's not much performance difference stock for stock. Seems strange, considering the S2K is 700 lbs. heavier than the Elise and 700 lbs. lighter than the 350Z. The great equalizers appear to be HP and tread width.

I should be moving to 260+ WHP soon and dropping a little more weight.
I guess I like to pull away on the sraight.

The driver would be the most important factor for how the car does on the track, and honestly if you are asking this type of question here, the driver is going to be the weak link.

I don't understand. If you don't race, why do you care what your car can do at the track? It will never be at a track, so what difference does it make?

Hmmm, that setup seems a little familar, even with changing the weight from 2650lbs. to 2560lbs.

Also, there is not enough info to give a real answer. 1/4-mile track? Short road course, easy(long straights) track, suspension, tires, etc.

The track is any staightaway that I would want to floor it on. It would tell me how well it will accelerate in a straight line. Just because you do not use something often does not mean you would not want it.

lol.. when you said "track" i thought "road-course"... your talking more like a drag or a strip.

If you N/A, i dont see how your going to be pushing 260whp. from what i've been reading here on the boards, even pushing 240 NA is pushing it to the limits. but who knows...

the reason why your pulling on a lotus elise on a straight is because stock they push about 190HP. they weight a little shy of 2000lbs but thats only good a course. not so much for a straight.

by ditching weight, your just increasing your power to weight ratio hence the power that you were being robbed because your pushing a lot of weight, your getting it back. its always better if your car weights less and less. it requires less torque to push your car and giving you a better acceleration.
