Challenged by an 04 GTO
Hey guys,
My co-worker challenged me today to a race... he's totally set on how superior his 04 GTO is to my "little Jap fun-car". haha. We were talking about drag racing at first... and I said he definately holds the advantage there and how it *may* come down to a driver's race but he should beat me there.
Then... out of nowhere he's like: "Nah, I'd rather do a run with lots of turns. My GTO was BUILT for handling"
Me:
"Ok."
So we settled on a location that has a LOT of turns, but I'm still a little worried due to the large elevation change and somewhat gentle turns. I can take most of the turns well over 60-70 mph... So that may give the big cruiser of an American car a slight advantage.
Any thoughts on how to race against such a car? I'm going to probably need every advantage I can do pre-race (my car is basically stock, but so is his) due to the huge power disadvantage. Luckily I have the lightweight factor on my side...
It's kind of a rivalry of one of the best out of Japan vs. one of the best from America.
Any feedback or tips on how to give myself any advantage would be nice

Yeah, run in the twisties. Your going to have to pull a Takumi and pull on the corners. Looks like you already settled on a place, but the best place would be extremely sharp turns that both you and him would have to take it to 2nd gear or so.
I think the 04 GTO is the 400hp one? Or is that 05?
I think that if he is a bad driver and overestimates the turns and slows down too much, you can pass him on the corners. Also, I don't know how their top end is, but I am sure they are matching hp in torque. I assume your going from a dead stop headed into the twisties or not?

Urr ... my advice would be to be careful not to crash. The race will go to whoever can drive closer to the limits without going over them, but the penalty for going even a little over may be another "I drove my S2000 over a cliff" thread.
05' has 400 hp. 04' has 350 hp. Twisties & turns you should kill this guy. The brakes on the 04's are absolute crap. They revise them quite a bit in 05, not to mention upgraded to the LS2/400 hp.

Take it to the track or better yet Auto-X, he wouldn't stand a chance. But a twisties race on a public road
your asking for troubleAnd straightline and from 3rd gear, he will kick your ass! (My bro has a Lumina SS/Holden Monaro auto with 325 bhp and in 3rd he takes off!)
Please give feedback on how you go.
I work in a place that make these GTO. Love to know how they compare to our roadster.
FYI the crash pad on these holden are trimmed by a "Honda" badged machine. I've been told this machine was bought from Honda and wasn't rebadge at all. I was blatantly surprised when I saw it.
