Default CLK 500 Fun

So last night as I was headed home on my 52 mile commute I went through the last town before home and noticed a Mercedes comming up on me. As we were leaving town in a 45 mph zone (I do not speed through towns) the guy in the M decided to pass me, I was like "no, no, no!!" as I didn't think he knew I like to go pretty fast on this last section and would eventually pass him anyway. The last 30 miles are on a country hwy, 1/2 way on this section is a small town (where he passed me), it's a real nice road along a river in the mountains of NW Oregon, I've been commuting on it the last 15 years and know it like my ball sack.
So anyway, we hit the 55 pmh section about 1/4 mile after he passed and got behind a van which he jetted around pretty quickly as I was on him pretty tight to show my displeasure at him passing me in a slow zone. I followed him around the van, this is on a nice 1/4 mile straight that takes a right hander at the end and goes into another 1/4 mile straight, the last long straight sections of road before my place (which is 15 miles further). I've seen this car before and know where he lives (there aren't many CLK's out my way), it's an '08 CLK 500. To my surprise he didn't let up and we were doing just under 110 when the right hander came up, I can take it at ~80, we brake a bit and hit the next straight which terminates in a nice little section of 35 mph corners. He's f'n flyin' and I'm right on his butt, at this point I realize he's going to play so I'm no longer upset but getting my game face on. We come up on another car about 3/4 the way through the corners, after these corners is another straght section and I can tell by the way he's doggin the guy in front of him he's going to slinshot around the last corner and get him on the straight. So I followed him around this guy and jump right up his butt to show he's not getting away. The next section of corners is pretty tight so I just run up on him every once in a while to show he's not pulling me even a little. He's gettin' it HARD though, his car is wallowing around the corners pretty good but we're probably double the recomended corner speeds. We do this for another couple miles and come up on another car. I know it's going to be another couple miles before we can pass so we both just hang back and drive sanely untill the opportunity presents itself for a pass. Well the guy turns off the hwy, we both have to slow to about 20 to let him in his driveway, as soon as he turns the CLK's front lifts the rear squats and he's off again. I open up the turbo and we hit 100 before the next bunch of corners. Theres one long sweeper that's posted 35 mph, we're doing better than 80, in fact I'm doing 82 at the end of it as I'm gaining on him, his car is doing some major wallowing comming out of that corner, I'm pretty sure he's pushing his car about 9.5/10 but still sticking pretty good. We carry on for another couple miles and we're getting close to where he lives so I back down to a moderate speed and I see his hand come out the window facing toward me, it looks like he wants me to pull over as we get to his driveway (on the left) he pulls into the other lane and again puts his hand out palm facing me as he pulls into his drive. I didn't feel like stopping so I just honked and waved and went on my way.
I know this guy like to drive fast, he used to commute in a Dodge qually quad cab and was always passing people (used to sort of piss me off as he wasn't always in the safest places). This was the 1st time I've encountered him since he got the CLK, I ended up working kind of late so there were a different bunch of commuters on the road. He's not young, he's got white hair and where's a siut all the time but he does like to drive! I think I might stop over there one of these days and shoot the poop w/him.
Not too exciting, I don't like straight line contests but get me in the corners and I get tunnel vision pretty bad. I usually end up playing w/sport bikes as they can hang w/me to some degree, I can always take them in the twisty's but they can jump out of a corner freakin' hard. I'm putting down 410 to the wheels so the CLK really didn't have a chance but it was big fun!!

GT35R, huh? you should have passed his ass on the straights and taken the twisties at your pace (instead of staying behind him and riding his ass) to let him know you were faster . sounds like you both had a good time though.

He knew I was faster, it was pretty apparent as I was gaining on him anytime I wanted to. I thought it was fun just to see how fast the old guy would push the car, if I would have passed he probably would have backed down as I would have been gone.

This story was intense! I was waiting for something tragic like the clk loosing it and wrecking his car. Haha i'm kidding.

Just once I thought he was getting pretty close to the edge of the cars gripping force, that was on the corner I was hitting 82, it concerned me enough to not close up on him too much. The outside edge of his car was pretty close to the road.
