It was a beautiful Saturday morning. The sun was out, the weather was a cool 75 degrees, and I think some birds were chirping. It was a glorious top down day.

I was traveling down....or should I say UP the Merrit Parkway in Connecticut for a scenic drive to work.....go figure eh? Company crunch time for june meeting. Quicktime VR's of June Meeting

I had my girlfriend with me (shes a digital studio artist where I work) and we were having a chat as we cruised. I had remembered saying to her how I wanted to race an Audi S4 because I almost bought one when considering buying the S2000.

Low and behold what do I see coming up behind with those brilliant xenon HID's? An Audi S4. He quickly made his way up to my rear bumper as I started to say to my girlfriend "ohhhh look! The Audi S4 wants to....." <headlight flash x2> ".....play?.......yeah! He wants to play!"

So I glance quickly around, and plan my escape. There was a car in front of me in the fast lane, but no one in the slow lane, and open two-lane ahead! So I change lanes, and he was already starting to lay into it, so I dropped down to third gear and stood on it!

The pull didnt come as quickly as I had anticipated. I gradually pulled in steady increments of half-car lengths. I figured since I had the top down, the drag coefficient was getting the best of me. By the time I shifted into 5th gear, I had put about 3.5-4 car lengths between us.

I left off, and he came right back up to my bumper. The road was open ahead, and I figured he had seen enough but he flashed me again. This time I was in the slow lane back down to about 60mph. He got over into the fast lane right at my rear bumper and dropped down to his lowest gear and held. That made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, this guy was calling me out!

So I said "why not another run". So as soon as he heard my engine climb in RPMs to match the gear (which I was going to hold until he punched it) he immediately jumped on it. DAMN that thing picked up quick, I let the clutch out and leaned into it, he pulled his nose up to my door before I began peeling away slowly but surely. 4th gear came and went, followed by 5th which resulted in my being about 2 car lengths ahead. A little different from the previous run.

So he let off before I did. When I realized he was out, I let off. He cruised pass me at a normal rate of speed, gave two honks and a wave. I then realized what I had been running from. It wasnt a 00-02 Audi S4 with the 2.7L TT 250hp/258tq V6, it was in fact the 4.2L 340hp/302tq V8!!!

When I saw him go by, I expected to see an S4 badge (that matched the one on the front grill) by the color, which was that beautiful blue, almost like the M3 blue. What I didnt expect to see, was the newer style rear end. I wasnt able to tell the spec by the front, they look the same to me.

I guess I answered my own question about the results of the race with the earlier model.

Which rear end is it, also did it have the new front with that new audi signature nose...I saw a new S4 the other day driving 90 on the major deegan....it had 4 tail pipes coming out the back..I usually am not a fan of audis but this new s4 happened to be really nice
