Cops are People, Too
Before I met my wife I bought a 1977 911S. She loved that car. We sold it in 1985--mom, dad, two kids in car seats, the collie, and a week's worth of groceries would fit in it, but when the third kid came along . . . . She cried the day we sold it.
Since then we've owned three Honda Civics, a Chevy Sprint, and two Plymouth Voyagers. She has grown to enjoy her anonymity on the road. A Voyager can go 10 mph faster than the flow of traffic and the cops won't even notice it.
Six weeks ago we bought the S2000. Red. A red S2000. Sayonara, anonymity. She loves this one, too, but she'd rather be inconspicuous on the road. She doesn't really need the kids in their Mustangs roaring up alongside to prove how fast they are. And she never realized how popular or well-known an S2000 was.
Last Friday she was off to fetch lunch for the office: her boss' birthday. One of the kids in the office--a lad of eighteen who knows more about the S2000 than most Honda engineers--offered to come along and help.
My wife is no stranger to fast cars, and has no compunction about hot-footing it off the line, but she keeps it around the speed limit. As they were returning with the sandwiches, a motorcycle cop passed her going the other way, just as she was getting away at the green light. "That was a cop!" her passenger yelled.
A minute later he looked in the mirror. "Now he's behind us!" "Don't worry," she said, "we're doing 49." (In a 50 mph zone.) At the red light, the motorcycle officer pulled up on the right. Her passenger waved nervously. The officer motioned for him to roll down the window.
Up popped the left thumb. "Nice car!"
She waited till he'd roared away before she burst out laughing.

I told him that was impossible..."don't argue with me!"

Anyway, he didn't give me a ticket...cuz he had nothing. He was coming the other way. I had taken the car from 0-47 in a 45 zone...fairly fast...like through 7krpms in first, but it was late...and gall darnit...the s2k is one loud little monkey. Anyway, he was a dork, but at least he knew enough not to give me a ticket for not doing anything
He was like, "You have a fast car...this is true..it is, but it's a safety issue!"....yeah going 47 in a 45 at 12:00 am when not a single soul is on the road, except cops looking for bad people..like myself
, is very unsafe.... cops make me laugh.
