Default Double header coming home from work!

Just got home from work. I must say it was the quickest trip home. Why you might ask?

ok here we go:

Had just got on the Merrit parkway. Cruising in the fast lane (about 70ish). I see traffic begin to get over behind me. I'm thinking...."hmmm must be a cop". So I wait until the last car behind me gets over and I see this large CHEVY emblem on the grill of a ~95 year model Chevy Impalla SS. (the serious ones before they offered them with V6 engines) After giving the guy a once over glance, I realize that he means business. The roads were clear ahead, and I knew what was coming.

Since I had the top down I could hear him jab the throttle a couple of times, as if he was saying "get your 4 cylinder out of my way". So i'm thinking "oh no buddy, if you want this lane, you have to get by me"....I hold my ground firm, hand on the shifter. All of a sudden, I hear the sound of a big V8 rev up, and I see his head lights get bright from the car sitting back.

Once I saw his car change lanes, I dropped it and stood on the gas. From his head start he pulled up to my rear wheel but after I took off, his pull stopped immediately! 9k rpm comes, threw it into 4th and start to ease away. I can hear his V8 growling down my neck!! After getting about 2 car lengths ahead of him I let off and he sailed past me. BIG pipes on that one, DAMN!

I think it would have been a better victory if I didnt have the "supercharged" badges.....i'm testing them out for a few weeks....I may have to remove them.

encounter 2:

Just got off the merrit, and was heading through Milford. I'm about a mile away from my house driving down Boston Post road. I look in my rear view mirror at a light to see this Neon SRT-4 coming up behind me. I say to myself "alright, thats it...top is coming up." So I put the top up, and as it closes I hear him rev at me.

Light goes green and I ease off, he comes up beside me and revs hard and I hear his blow off valve scream! We catch the next light with some traffic and I we exchange some conversation. He says "hey! i've never seen one of those supercharged!! How much boost, this and that" So I ask him. He's got a stage 1 Mopar turbo upgrade, after market blow off valve, boosting 15psi!!! So after that we look forward and realize the traffic had gone, and we had.........open road. Being the responsible person I am, I take off normally.......but ride 1st gear KNOWING that this guy wouldnt let me get away without at least trying to take me on. He does the same....

I can hear his engine whining over mine as, like idiots, we are pacing each other in first gear at about 5k rpms. We both knew what was going to happen. I hear him step on it, but ohhhh no, TURBO LAG. So I jumped him good! I shift to second gear as I hear his tires spin as he shifts....too late, I hit second and I was G-O-N-E. I finished off second (about 60mph) and let off.

He came up, I gave him the thumbs-up and he said "cool! see ya around!!!"

I'm wondering what my car would have been like without the top down against the Impalla.....hmmmm

Stock the Impala's were 15.00 cars, but Im sure as years go on and more and more people beat on them and refuse to take care of them, it could get worse. I have roughly the same motor as the Impala, and with a few bolt on's and if it was running well, im sure he could have been a mid to low 14 second car. Not bad for a 10 year old 4000 lb beast

This car was obviously taken care of. It sounded somewhat modded. I'm not much of a v8 specialist but it was quick! I've had friends who have taken those cars especially and ran 12-13 second quarter miles all motor, which is why I was pissed I had the top down. I didnt run away from it, I had to earn those few car lengths I put on him.

Good runs.

I'd lose the SC emblem. I put mine on one of my RC cars for laughs.

Turbo lag on a Td04? Dude, that turbo will fit inside half of a lunch box. Turbo lag is one thing that car does not have.

One thing that it will do though is kill all kinds of power if first gear is ridden for any extended period of time...as in 10-15 seconds or more. I dont know why but if you try to gun it in first after having it in that gear for a few it just doesnt want to go anywhere.

guy just was a crappy driver.

Damn! I didnt know the mopar stage 1 upgrade was still a little T25 peanut turbo. I've had a T25 on a B16 and a t3/t04e .60/.63 a/r. With the t25, if I stood on it in first gear, the tires would roast. The t3/t4 would slowly spool, and rip loose up top near redline. Thats why I though he had a bigger turbo.

Thats strange about it not wanting to go anywhere if first gear is held for a little while. When he nailed it, it sounded like it bogged. Heard the familiar sound of a greddy type-s blow off valve. So nice!

I'm going to run the badges for a nother week or so. I've had some modded out civics pass me by without giving a second look. Thats kind of nice. If I was in my old GSR, they would have messed with me without a doubt.

Just in case your wondering...I used to own an SRT4 before the S2k and Ive actually experienced the 1st gear phenomenon.

If I were to race an SRT from a roll...and only if they wanted to from a roll, because races from rolls are gay to me...Id do it at 40mph in 2nd gear...both cars.

The guy in the SRT will have to almost immediately shift into third, losing time if hes a slow shifter all the while you'll be happily climbing the rpm band in vtec.
