Embarrassing Loss
I was coming back from Huntington this morning, right where Beach hits PCH. This silver MSP pulled up next to be at the first light, right before that long straight without cross streets. It was clear out by this point, and I figured the little bit of water left on the road was no biggie.
We both started out feathering the clutch, then went WOT. I was at least 2 cars up on him by the top of first gear. I hit second gear perfectly... maybe a bit too perfectly. The car started to get squirly and the backend came totally loose. I was turning 8000rpm and only going ~40mph in second. I had to ease all the way off the gas to get traction back. By the time I was back to WOT he was passed me, and by the top of third I still hadn't caught back up.
I know his car had some work done (I heard BOV), but there is no doubt who should have won. I think he knew this, because he pulled in front of me at the next light.
Gave him a thumbs up when I eventually passed him... but I sure wish we had ran on dry roads.

Dude, that's horrible. Those cars can only put down 240-250whp MAX before the internals start to melt. What's even worse, is you are racing on PCH 3 days after one of our members dies on the same road.
At what point did you decide racing in the S was a smart (or not dumb) thing to do when there is water on the ground?

It wasn't PCH, it was Beach Blvd. That road was 4 lanes wide on each side, and we were in the middle lanes with no opposing traffic to be seen. There was no standing water, just a little moisture left. It had stopped raining probably an hour or more beforehand. Afterward, it did occur to me that the timing was awful, but all things being equal it wasn't nearly as dangerous as the races some members get themselves into.
BOOO to the haters, it's the Street Encounters forum. I'm sure he would change some things if he could go back in time. I know I've gotten a little squirly on the 1-2 shift in damp conditions and you better believe there's a mental note not to do that again. "Let he who is without spin cast the first stone..." or something like that.

LOL... I haven't spun out yet but then again i've only had the car for a month or so. Anyways it was probably a good idea backing off. Better to lose a race to a slower car than turning your car into a bomerang by wrapping it around a tree. Next time wait till the road is dry and then act an ass.
