Encounter of the Type-S kind
Driving to pick up my wife tonight and was a bit behind schedule. Picking it up a notch (in my oh-so-fast Honda Accord
) I was shifting close to redline and just generally having a bit of fun under the excuse of needing to get somewhere fast.
Lo and behold, I glance in my rearview mirror and see a gold Acura TL Type-S booting it along behind me, move for move. For about a kilometre, he stuck right behind me, taking the corners hard, revving it high, etc, etc. Imagine my surprise when, at a stop light, I realize it's some grandpa that looks about 55-60 years old!
I couldn't believe it - anyone else out there have any experiences with "old" people driving hard like that? I thought it was pretty cool that he actually used the extra power and lower-profile tires, grip, etc, etc, of the "sporty" TL instead of just drifting along like most older folks. I say we need more of 'em (as long as they're as alert as he seemed to be).

i had the top down with my gf next to me at this light. when the light turned green, this OLD dude (maybe 50) peeled out (he had a V6 accord). my instincts took over and before i knew it, i was on the gas. after blowing by him and then eventually stopping at the next light, the dude looks over and says, "yeah, you better beat me since you have a sports car. if you would have lost, that would have been pitiful." that was it, he gave me a pissy look and turned his head away with an attitude. my gf and i were like "uh, wtf was that?" oh well...
nHobbes,
Did the old dude actually peel out? Or just get off the line quickly? Maybe he was making a sarcastic comment about people in sports cars always trying to be faster than everyone else, even when there's absolutely no point (he had an Accord).
I don't ever consider getting off the line quickly an attempt to race unless the person has made eye contact first.

You guys should see my dad, he has no S2000 but everytime he drives my 2k2 Maxima around, he's going around chriping 2nds and 3rds, my friends followed him once already, and on the highway, even I get scared sometimes, he's 54..lol My Idol, at least I have an excuse when I get a speeding ticket.I've gotten lucky though...
