I read the the inundation of straight line races on this forum daily. It's good entertainment at best. but what baffles me is that you guys purchase a car whose strongest feature is it's handling, yet 98% of the posts i read deal in some form of drag racing.

I want to know if you guys ever come across these kinds of cars in the canyons and or side roads where the driver no longer just has to put the "pedal to the metal". I can only think of maybe 5 stories that come to mind. the other thing is that I never hear about your own driving excursions where you get up on a saturday morning and go and hit your favorite backroads......and name them so that others can try them. you have forums dedicated to the big ones......but what about having that boxster pull up next to you while you are on that two lane road driving down by the coast in california? I just want to know if this happens......cause from reading this forum.....I don't think it does. I'm not bitchin....... and I realize it's your forum.....but, I know you guys don't drive in straight lines all the time......right?

Well, considering more cars are built for speed over handling, I don't think many people see twisty roads as a safe zone for a race. Consequences of an accident are far worse. Most twisty roads are two lane roads only, not allowing you to see if there's a car around the corner, should you be in the opposite lane. The S2000 is built for handling, but as a low 14 second car, it is pretty quick.

To get a feel for what your car can do laterally in a safer and controlled environment, look for a local SCCA event or a club or 'touring' event at the nearest permanent road course. It's a different world from straight lining it and you may just find yourself getting hooked and trading in the drag slicks.

Good Post, I agree, I love road racing way more than drag racing. That is why I bought this car. If I wanted to drag only, I would have bought an RX7 or Supra. I take a trip up to Reno or Tahoe on a normal basis in good weather, and there is nothing like it. This is a GT car. Good throttle response, handling, braking. Which brings up another problem I have with people, nobody mentions the extraordinary branking capabilities of our beloved car. We compete with Ferrari's on this level. I guess for alot of these people, they live in the big flat midwest. Hit the mountains sometime, or better yet, hit the Cali coasline along highway 1. It is a breathtaking experiance with the top down.

Although this is not the safest thing in the world to do I actually encounter cars on twisty roads quite a bit. I live right by Sunset Blvd. and I've turned this road into my own personal playground. I've won against a Boxster S and S4 (all 3 of us were racing at the same time, best race of my life), a Z3, an M3, and countless ricers. I've lost against an NSX, but it was close

Again, not safe at all, considering the fact that even if one of the other drivers I'm racing screws up the slightest bit, his car could go careening into mine, or into someone else's, or into a hard surface, and even if I make it out without a scratch on me or my car, I can be criminally prosecuted.

I raced an Audi A4 in my old Integra. We were going about 50 through a turn and he started to push right towards my lane, tires howling. I don't mess with people in the twisties. If I knew they knew how to drive maybe, but far too many people drive like idiots.

i never refered to "racing" in the twisties.......just a good game of cat and mouse or a chance encounter with another driving enthusiast. I don't mean tearing through twisties like you would if they were straight. it's no biggie really. I just thought that some of you would have stories of this nature to share other than what pulled up next to you at a stop light. Drive on......
