Hello, everyone,

These may seem like rather inane musings but I watched The Fast & the Furious again last night and a few things are puzzling me (and I bet people here have an explanation):

1. Near the beginning the undercover cop complains he can't get more than 140 mph from his Eclipse. But the Eclipse should almost do 140 without any modifications. The cop was referring to getting more than 140 in the quarter mile, right?

2. Torretto's Mazda-RX-7, massaged as it was for maximum performance, wouldn't have 150+ lbs of sub-woofers and audio equipment, would it?

3. When they look under the Eclipse's hood and admire the mods and say "A nice way to spend $10K " but then say the black S2000 has $100K of work done on the engine something seems way out of whack. Just a careless mistake or could the S2000 really have $90K more mods than the already heavily modded Eclipse?

4. When they first see the junk Supra TT they immediately say it's junk. Then, just because they discover it has a J... engine (a Japanese domestic version, I assume) they are in awe. C'mon, would the JD engine really make that much of a difference?

5. And lastly, the race with the Ferrari. I can't remember exactly what model it was but I think it was a Mondial. I think most Ferrari owners would know that a Supra TT - stock, never mind one so obviously modded - would blow that vintage of Ferrari away. Except...wouldn't the Supra TT, being optimized in the pursuit of 1/4 mile glory, have a rear end geared totally for acceleration and, in that case, the Ferrari would initially fall behind but quite quickly make a distant spec out of the Supra?

Thanks for the clarification!

Anyone who knows anything about cars realize that movie is a joke. Entertaining, but far from reality.

1. Maybe that was the speed for that strip of land he was driving. A 140 MPH 1/4 would translate into
the high 9's, low 10's in the 1/4.

2. Yeah, if I was looking for a really fast car I wouldn't drop all that stereo equipment in it, but if he lives
in LA it is about show and go. Hey, this is Hollywood.

3. I say now way there could be $100K in additions. For about $10K he could do a turbo and nitrous.
He said he was going to put a Nissan SR20 motor in there, but even the engine and all the mods in
in the world would add up to about $30K-$40K.

4. The 2JZ-GTE engine is a thing of beauty. Know how to fix it up and you are looking at 800+hp

5. It's a 355 convertible. It runs low 13's, so if the Supra was supposed to run low 10's-high 9's it
should have eaten it for breakfast. But again this is hollywood. I have seen the 360 coupe run low
12's. Maybe a bigger challenger

yeah, but in the movie, they guy specifically says, "...he probably has about 100k worth of mods UNDER HIS HOOD"

that eliminates the cost on modded wheels/body/suspension/etc..

Does anyone have a screen capture they can post of the Ferrari in F&F? Otherwise, I'm gonna have to rent that god-awful movie to see if it is a 355 or a Straman Testarossa Cabrio. I could have sworn it was the chop top Testarossa.

this movie was obviously a joke. It was nothing more than a little handout to all those import fanatics out there. No doubt the supra, rx-7, etc. are all really fast, both in real life and as they appeared in the movie, but lets be serious here. The plot, script, acting, and just about everything else was an automotive and cinemagraphic abomination. If nothing else, it was a huge commercial for NOS

here are just some of the other things I noticed:

1. the 1/4 mile race in the beginning was absolutely ridiculous. it seemed like a 5 mile race. It just went on forever and ever.

2. the 3 black civics were not only incredibly ugly, but if they were going to pull a heist, wouldn't they have used something faster. Also, if they're trying to be stealthy about their attack on the big rigs, what in the world would they have neon lights under their car? Also, the whole idea of having three cars, and using the crossbow/cable shooting thing is ridiculous. why don't they just pull up next to the truck, and have someone get out and climb onto the truck and shoot the trucker?

3. the white jetta. what the?
