Default FD3S VS S2000

Time: 800PM
Place: I10 West
Car: FD3S Mazda RX7, 99+ JDM bumper, mods unknown.
Story:

I was heading back from the Lone Star BBQ in Houston on my way to San Antonio, TX. I come up on an FD cruising in the left lane. I'd been on the road for a while and was getting antsy. Yea, we can all see where this is going...

So I pull up next to him, roll down the windows and give him a thumbs up. I coast on past and see what kind of mood hes in. He gets behind, we pass a couple cars as our speed builds. A quick glance at the speedo indicates hes probably willing to play so I move over and slow it to 60. Drop it into 3rd and coast. I hear him blip and gear change so off I go knowing good and well regardless if hes stock or not I'm doomed. Top of third_Shift_ I see the 99+ bumper in mirror, follow through 4th and I see him next to me - See folks, its times like this I get hella mod envy - I faintly hear the sound of the twins turbos going to work, and just as that beautiful ass end is about to pass my front bumper I shift into 5th...

I yelled uncle at a buck twenty or so. Fun run with thumbs up at the end - and who wants to pass up hearing a 13B wide open..?

Pics (post race ):

I've had a love affair with the FD since it came to the states in '93. I actually had a loan for a '94 Montego Blue touring package back in '00, but after visiting the RX-7 Lemon Page decided against it and purchased an '01 S2000. It's still one of my dream cars, and forever will be.

Sounds like a fun run, thanks for posting it .

But he's behind you in the picture. That counts as a win to me

I can't remember who said it, but they did a great job summing up the RX-7. Paraphrasing, it goes something like this:

The RX-7 is like a hot chick with an STD. You really wanna do it, but at the same time, fear the consequences.

Something like that. I personally really like the RX-7, but I knew a guy who had one years ago. Always had something wrong with it. Maintenance issues FTL. Other than that, they are awesome.

aw mate, the solution is simple.

1) sell the STi (oh shit did i just type that?)
2) buy FD shell
3) buy LS1
4) add 2 and 3 together
5) for the win.

on a more serious note, the FD3s is simply one of the most beautiful cars ever created by mankind, IMHO. they look good in any colour, and in the land of insane ricers that is called southern california, i have yet to see an rx7 that looks bad, even with all the rice crap on it most of the time.

very difficult car to screw up the appearance with...it's beautiful.

damn it maybe i should do the above 5 steps, except step 1 is selling my Evo.

Sounds like that one had a some minor mods. I ran into one a year ago that pulled 5 cars on me just between 3rd to 4th gear even with my current mods.

a proper running stock rx7 will pull a stock s2k.... problem is try finding a stock one. and if you do i doubt its running the proper 10-8-10 boost pattern...they always leak boost somewhere...freakin heat factories under the hood and that results in cracking in all the vaccum lines ( which there are a million of)
