Default Finally found another race...

It seems like forever since I've had the opportunity to get a race. Anyways... I was on my way home from work this afternoon and up ahead I see a dark grey Boxster and as I get closer I see no badging on the rear but it did have the twin pipes which would indicate that it is the 'faster' Boxster S. I know they're not that fast... I use to beat them in the S2000 before I turbocharged it but 'he started it'. I was minding my own business... had 4 open lanes to choose from and this guy seemed to keep changing lanes to stay in front of me. At this point I had no intention of wasting my time and gas on a Boxster but he just kept it up. Finally I just dropped a gear and flashed past him a reasonable distance and went back to my business. He comes up on my left and kept 'jumping' the nose of his car forward obviously trying to get me to race. He got his wish... it wasn't even really fun. We were going about 65-70 mph so I drop to 4th which is not very aggressive in the Cobra... could have easily dropped another gear. I start pulling instantly and before I knew it I was going about 115 mph and he was several buslengths behind me. I know the Boxster/S is a very well balanced car but I'm a little dissappointed that Porsche put out such an anemic sports car.

Like the S2000, Boxsters are all about handling and fun. And they also make great track cars. Anemic they are not! It's just a different type of car than your muscle car. If we had all wanted straight-line speed, we would all be driving modded Camaro SS for a very cheap price. Hope you got the point...

Me too... keeping fingers crossed.

I know Boxsters aren't about straight line speed but for the kind of money someone drops on a Boxster S and the Porsche name I would certainly expect it to be faster. They are a dime a dozen... they seem to be more common than Miatas around here. I would buy a used 911/993/996 before I would consider buying a Boxster.

Hope you got the point...
You need to be telling the guy who got his ass handed to him... he's the one that needs to get the point. We weren't on a track we were on the highway and he instigated the race. I have driven Porsches extensively... and they are (in general) wonderful cars. I have beaten Boxster S' on more than one occassion in my S2000 when it was in stock form yet they cost twice as much or more. Sure it's a Porsche but it's technologically inferior in most ways to the S2000 and has no decisive advantage over the S2.

Dudes, I know Boxsters are expensive and not TOO fast, but straight-line speed is not why their owners have bought the car. It must be as extremely fun as an S2000 when the top is down and is driven around a few curves. I wouldn't mind having one, I tell ya.

Yes, he instigated it, but he just wanted to test it out and have a little fun. So I guess, good kill! But if you want to be challenged, make appointments with modded Vipers and Supras, then they'll be good races.

Just wanted to point out that Boxsters and S2000's are not the fastest straight-line cars, but they sure are the funnest. Me luv it!

Kumar.... yes only until my funny gas set up comes in though. I'll probably keep it mild.. probably an 80 shot. We have two blown Z06's around here that I've only had a chance to play with one of them briefly and I could tell I wasn't going to like the outcome. I figure an 80 shot should put me at about 650 RWHP... should be enough to handle them. What the heck have you done to your car to get those numbers?
