Default firebird vs. ap1

I was coming into work for a little while today (top down), and while driving I passed some cute chick in a blue eclipse.

So anyways while I was looking back at her waiting for her to catch up to me, some dude in a black firebird with the pop-up headlights (like 2001+?) was tailgating her waiting to pass her.

The road goes from 2 lanes to 3 lanes, and he easily passes her, cuz she's just cruising, and gets a couple of car lengths in front of me, then has to slow down because there is a car in front of him in the left lane. My exit is coming up in a couple miles, and I am behind a car in the right lane.

So we get some free space, he still has a couple lengths (mind you we haven't started accelerating yet, we are waiting for an opening), he accelerates to run up on the next group of cars, and I do the same to see how well I would fare if we were to race (never raced a firebird/camaro).

I was in 4th gear around 80, and we go up till about 110(107-110), then I have to start slowing down for my exit. He didn't put any additional distance on me. I don't know if he had the ls1, or what model firebird.

Cliffs notes:

ap1 top down vs. firebird, 80-110, even.

I was expecting the story to continue with:

The cute chick in the blue Eclipse drove by me when we stopped racing and...

Either way, good run.

I would think he would do better against a V6?

You need to remember to say trans am or z28 because otherwise alot of people think you mean the v6 versions, in which case it would even be a waste of gas to race a firebird or camero. And also every firebird since the early eighties has had the pop up headlights up until they stopped making them. The cameros were pretty much firebirds without pop up headlights. Good race though.

Sounds about right...I remember a couple months ago I was cruising around around at night when 2 guys in a convertible z28 Comaro (also topdown)w/ a loud ass aftermarket exhaust wanted to race me down this long stretch of the road. They kept punching it then coasting back and forth until I dropped it into 3rd gear and gained about a car on them till I shut down at 80 something. I basically ran it out of 3rd gear and shut down. gained a cars' length in that one gear. I let them catch up and they gave me a thumbs up while smiling. Vtec is your friend in these situations.
