ford focus?????
I've had all kinds of cars (and SUVs) try to race me before.....but this past Saturday night brought one of the fiercest competitors I've ever faced....a mean looking dude with thick glasses driving a ford focus. My girlfriend and I were on our way into Georgetown for some drinks at the Tombs, taking 66 East into the city. While on the entrance ramp, I see I set of headlights jumping in and out of traffic....then this guy blows by me on the right hand side in a focus. I'm just thinkin 'whatever' as I pull onto 66, and I get into the far left lane to start cruising when all of a sudden the focus crosses over 2 lanes and cuts in front of me inches from my bumper. Now I'm a little irked with this guy, so I give him the brights and he gives me the finger...now it's time to teach him a little friendly lesson about the s2000. I pull around him when traffic clears, and in a matter of seconds put him a solid 1/4 mile behind me. Thinking he's gone, I settle back into talking to my girlfriend, when suddenly I see those little headlights charging down the left lane. So I shift to 3rd and let out the clutch nice and smooth so he can't see I dropped a couple gears, and when he pulls up to me I slam the gas down and he's instantly in my rear view mirror. Since there's traffic ahead I pulled into the left lane, and started keeping pace with the traffic in front of me. A minute or two later the focus catches up and starts riding my bumper and swerving from side to side as much as a focus can without blowing off the road. Seeing the look on my girlfriend's face made me think this was time to call it quits and drop to 45 mph with the campers and minivans in the right lane, but the little boy in me just wouldn't let go. The rest of the way down 66 the guy just wouldn't quit - he would swerve and truck along until he caught me, then I would punch it and be done with him...he followed me all the way into the city, where I finally lost him going over the Key Bridge into DC....the last I saw of him he was still swerving and shouting his way through the traffic....probably off to tell his friends all about how his little focus was a "good value for the money" and an "economic choice". The way I see it, a little Saturday night humiliation is the price you're gonna pay for saving $20,000 on your car....to some people it's not an issue, but this angry man didn't seem to feel that way
maybe he was under the influence of something. My car on paper has the same accel. stats as a Focus. Yet because the car weighs less and I am a very light load to the car, my car practically pulls its own weight, so I am able to pull away from them. I say either he thought you were a Miata, or he was drunk or high.
good judgement to let him go.
His car is a good value, in terms of interior volume vs. price. Decent handling for a FWD. But ignorance must be bliss.
