Default Got owned.... TWICE!

And I actually didn't mind either time. Both times I was getting on I40.

First time I was headed home after playing some basketball and I am headed down 54 and see a C6 Vette. I did a little minor weaving (3 cars or so) and got behind him just in time to turn on to 40 (I normally go hwy54 straight home). So I get on it behind him and he sees whats going on and leaves me like illegitmate child in the bronx. I kinda figured, but it was still fun. Caught up with him and gave him the thumbs up.

Next night I go pick up my g/f and the dog and we are gonna cruise for a few down 40 then get off and get some BP premium. At 54, turning left, I get behind a white 350Z that looks to have gold wheels and some kind of numbers that looks like they are either off a car lot or he has been to the track in his upper left front window. He plays and we turn then get on 40 and he he and I both jump up to 80 or so and he pulls away from me and weaves in between a few cars, which I won't do going that fast.

Not too terrible, but both times I did have my top down and noticed that 3rd gear takes a while to get from 7k-9k.

Any similar encounters to 350s with the tops up? I think the top up and a catback and test pipe would have made a world of diff versus the 350z. Corvette, well we all know about that.

I'm in an 02 Stock.

Those losses sound about right. 350Zs are faster than S2Ks in a straight line, and everyone knows better than to think a stock S can burn a 'Vette, let alone a C6 Vette.

yea as everybody said the newer 350z are quicker than the s2000 esp. up top, they have a big advantage in terms of being more aerodynamically efficient, not to mention a much lower coefficient of drag

c6s are just animals. my old 330whp evo 9 coudln't keep up with one after 100mph.

Would a mid pipe and catback put me there with the 350?

depends on the 350z your racing. Bolt-ons help 350z out a lot compared to what bolt-ons do to our cars.

With that said, How are these 350Z's more aerodynamically efficient. We also have the ability to go hard top too. Do you have any Diagrams of any sort?? But yes, the new 350Z's can walk our S2K's.

Zs have whats called Zero lift at high speeds: The hatchback's shape helps the Z slice through the air with a minimum of drag (0.29 on the Track model). The Roadster's more traditional coupe outline isn't quite as slippery, attaining a drag coefficient of 0.34. (But what do you care when you've got the wind in your hair?) Underbody airflow is managed well, with zero lift on the front (and zero lift on the rear of the Track model). All this math adds up to relatively low levels of wind noise, even in the Roadster with the top up, and a stable sports car at high speeds.
